Can you imagine if the Jets drew a line in the sand with Namath. We'd be sitting on 0 super bowls now. Sometimes you have to overpay. Heaven forbid "inch up" on an offer
You got me there, I actually played football at every level but pro lol I'm confused as to who your calling idiots everyone on here that has said he wasn't worth 6 mill a year or Idzik the guy who could've paid him but chose not to.
Seriously... The sky is not falling. It's been only 8 hrs into FA and your barometer is swinging in tune with media speculations. You want something to happen, I get it. It will, give it time, save your nerves
Your the one ready to no longer be a Jets fan over a back up qb named Vick,we don't need anymore fans like you
Seems like all but one is on the same page as Idzik that 6 million a year was too much. After Sanchez and Goodson get cut we will have almost 50 million to spend. Gotta see the positives.
Can't blame Idzik for Howard. He's now being paid as a top 3 RT in the NFL. That's absurd. He's a competent RT, but replaceable.
Breno Giacomini (born September 27, 1985)[1] is an American footballoffensive tackle for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 2008 NFL Draft.[2][3] He played college football at Louisville. He is of Brazilian descent.[4] Along with Gary Barnidge of the Cleveland Browns, Giacomini founded in 2011 American Football Without Barriers, a football-related charity foundation.[5] Green Bay Packers[edit] He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 5th round, 150th pick overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. On July 23 he was signed to a four year rookie contract with a signing bonus of $179,000.[8] Base salaries are as follows: $295,000 (in 2008), $385,000 (2009), $470,000 (2010), $555,000 (2011).[9] Seattle Seahawks[edit] Giacomini was acquired by the Seattle Seahawks from the Packers practice squad on September 28, 2010, and released on October 23, 2010. He was re-signed for the 2011 season, during which he played in 15 games and started 8.[10] He started every game of the 2012 season, including both postseason games.[11] Giacomini started in 9 games during the 2013 season, missing 7 games (week 4-10) while recovering from knee surgery.[12] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breno_Giacomini So he's another one of Idzik's walking wounded retread's (stop gap) players who will be in the training room by trainning camp but no later than the fourth regular season game. Then what?
Great teams arent great b/c of their avoidance of the cap. The cause and effect is actually the opposite. Great teams don't require as many pieces to try to win. Now you might say, but GS, how does a team become great? 1) It drafts reeeeeally well 2) it lands an elite QB When you draft well, you aren't forced to sign free agents as much. Take our DB situation. This is a team that has drafted TWO first round CBs in the last 5 years, yet we have no reliable starter, and are forced to pay for one. This is a team that traded UP in the 2nd round two years ago to get a tall speedster WR. Yet we are forced to buy some now b/c he is essentially useless. This is a team that has OL issues, b/c three years ago we drafted a useless oaf in the 2nd round b/c our GM went to his college. The number of 1st and 2nd round busts for this team the last few years is why we suck. NOT bc "we spent too much".
That awkward moment when you check the QB listings and see Sanchez is making more money than Brady (until cut). Smh
Zach Strief and Breno Giacomini, the two tackles lined up to potentially replace howard are apparently the two that sandwich Howard on this list of free agent RT's:http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/45947/309/2014-nfl-free-agents from what I've read around, Strife is a bit underrated, Giacomini is average overall. New Orleans and Seattle supposedly want them back protecting their gems at QB, put it to you all that way. Brady makes a surprisingly low amount, but then he knows how frugal his team is and that he'll make it up elsewhere.
Strief is the guy i'd rather have over Howard or Breno. Guys a really underrated player. Would be a really good signing for us.
