Practically the entire Panthers offensive line is retiring..they could be players for any of the Oline FAs
How reasonable is it to stack the contract so that the money comes first? For instance, I wouldn't be against signing Verner for four or five years and giving him 12M this year (while we have a lot of room) if he has a few 7 or 8M years later on. I don't know for sure, but I read that it's harder to hold out now post-CBA. Would it make sense to give a player that kind of contract to make sure we get them?
Not a bad idea to me but I'm not a math guy at all, that'd be up to the Jets FO. I was actually referring to Austin Howard seeing as we haven't locked him up yet he probably doesn't like our offer. We lose him and we'll need a right tackle and two starting guards to compete with what we have which seemingly isn't much
Idzik is probably going to let Howard test the waters and he'll match + 1$. It can be easy to overpay for familiarity. This way all parties will see what his value would be. Doubt Idzik feels we can afford to lose him with crap guards and Brick and Mangold getting old.
that's dangerous, there are a lot of teams w/ cap space and one will probably severely overpay. That's a dangerous game to play.
Via Evan Silva Idzik using roster bonuses, not signing bonuses. Avoiding future proration & dumping $ into '14. #Jets will have healthy cap for long time.
if we sign howard we will still need a right tackle since he is one of the worst in the league. guy is awful and we should let him walk
I think we may want to see what he actually does w/ all these picks and cap room. what he has done to this point has been very easy. the hard part starts now.
The jury is deff still out, but I really like what I am saying up to this point. All positives since he got here.
Other than Verner/Davis CB rumors, I havent heard any other names..I believe in Idzik, hope he's got something up his sleeve
I really feel like we are about to get Byrd and one of Verner/Davis... Whitner is reportedly almost done with a deal to CLE. That rules Byrd out for them... And its been really quiet regarding him...
We NEED to sign Steve Smith once he's released. No one will trade for him. He's invaluable as a veteran to younger receivers and to our young QB. Would love to grab him
