Signing 25 or 26 year old FA's would be constructive aggression. Signing the prime time guys is another story. If the Jets are really building at 2016 they don't want to be signing guys going 30 that year.
Idzik is a smart man. This post is hilarious in regards to all the posters on here claiming that Idzik will be conservative lmao
With that being said, we can't really take Manish to seriously... But I really think even though he is conservative, he will try and make a splash because they are some serious deficits needed to be corrected.
point being he is not a franchise savior. and the price tag is prohibitive. Did he play 16 ,ill ion dollars worth of corner? Is there such a thing?
Idzik is being agressively smart, hes going after young guys and paying them good instead of paying 5 year contracts to people who are past their primes, hes not just going after names (aka what the eagles did)
We got about 40 mil in cap space, 5th most in the league. Why not be aggressive? We have needs and there are FA's out there to fill those needs.
Because we need to sign some of our own this year or next and handing out big contracts like jellybeans is going to make that situation much harder to deal with. I'd hate to give Verner a huge contract and then see JJ Watt get a mega-money deal and suddenly we have no way to keep Mo Wilk after 2015 because he's going for the gold and all the team first stuff went out the window with the splurge this year.
I agree with you, but I am certain Idzik knows what he is doing. He is known for his cap ability and contract negotiations.
This is where you have to have faith in Idzik. Every interview I've heard with him makes him sound extremely intelligent and thoughtful with long term goals in mind. On top of that he's a "cap guy." He does not strike me as a guy who isn't thinking at least 3 years down the road.
Pretty cool tool for all of you on the computer throughout the day to stay up on things. http://www.nfl.com/freeagency
SiriusXM NFL Radio @SiriusXMNFL 55s Free Agent QB Josh McCown told us earlier, "I know the 1 or 2 teams I'm gonna go to...I want to get a deal done quickly." Could the Jets be one of those teams?
The Jets have always been one of them, he wants a chance to become the starter and he would have that here.
Don't know about u folks but I would be happy with 1 starter on both sides of the ball, signing our own Howard, and a bonafide QB. Don't think it's drunken sailor time and it shouldn't be.
