Why wouldn't he be a starter for Denver from Day 1? The just released Champ. He would be playing opposite DRC and with a team that just went to the SB. JDR isn't a bad DC either.

Drew would be worth his salt just picking up blitzes for the QB

You guys think we sign a RB? I wouldn't mind Johnson if he was cheap.

I never like the idea of signing FA RBs. Nowadays, RBs are interchangable parts and have relatively short life spans. Just draft a guy in the 3rd or 4th round...

Johnson won't be cheap, he'll still be looking for about $4m/year and he just can't make people miss the way he used to.

Jets are looking for another RB but it won't be Johnson.

I'd go for Sproles over Johnson.

Definitely Sproles over Johnson as he's a very good receiver too, not to mention ST's.

We might get vontae Davis. I hear he agreed with a team probably, and it's not Indy. Just a thought..

No, I know they released them, but what I'm saying is that New England and Denver have both stated that they are trying to reach new deals with Champ and Talib. We released Cromartie with no attempt to resign. Shows we are fully committed to a new guy. Denver and New England are showing that they are willing to resign their old guys.

    This was just posted earlier:

"According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the Colts are "nearing a deal" with Vontae Davis and the deal should get done Monday in advance of free agency starting Tuesday."

Something you can't overlook in our courtship of Verner: we have a guy that makes CBs look good. Revis was good already, but look at the money Rex got him. Rex also made Cro a very rich man. He coached up Milliner to the point where he was defensive rookie of the month the last month of the season. Rex can make "stars" out of CBs with talent.

If you could get only one of Byrd or Verner (assume similar price tag), which would you guys prefer?

If he is our #1, we are in trouble.

Verner. He and Milliner could be one hell of a CB duo. Milliner is 22, Verner is 25. Byrd isn't exactly old, but I feel like you can draft a high-end safety a lot easier than a high-end CB nowadays.

I thought this quote was an interesting perspective from Verner:

“I look at it as more of a respect value,” he explained. “I would feel more obliged to go to a team that paid me $6 or $7 million and made me one of the highest-paid players on the team than go to a team that paid me $8 or $9 million, and I wasn’t one of the highest-paid players on the team.”

Yes he wants to be the highest-paid player on his team but it also sounds like he's prepared for the responsibility that comes with that. Also who on the Jets makes more than $7mil/year right now? If we could get Verner at $7m instead of $9m/year that would be a nice savings.

I think this is being overlooked but I am worried as all hell about Austin Howard. Miami is lurking in the shadows to snag him and we all know they will overpay the shit out of someone.

Losing him sucks like hell, but losing him to help benefit Miami would fuckin kill me.

Where have you ever read anything about Rex "coaching up" CBs? Rex was a DL coach. I've never read one thing where Rex was credited for working with the CBs. He's had quality DB coaches. Revis was traded up for because he pretty much already had great technique and the skills necessary to succeed. Cro was traded for because of his unbelievable athletic talent, even though his technique was pretty shoddy. It still is even after playing for Rex for what, 4 years? What does that tell you?
