3 playoff games, 3 bad games. That is all you need for a sample size. Especially in the playoffs. it is completely fair to judge him. 3 straight stinkers. The game against the Chargers was completely unacceptable. AJ Green, 2 good TEs and Gio Bernard and you can't put up points? You continuously turn the ball over? I bet the Bengals scale back the passing game this season because of that.
That's fine, if you are a GM and you keep losing playoff games with Dalton, your ass will eventually be out the door
I never said he hasn't played bad in the playoffs, the numbers are proof of that. I'm saying he's better than Mark Sanchez, and that 3 games aren't going to sway my opinion, just because they happen to be in the playoffs.
After doing some quick research, it looks like Joe Flacco's first five playoff games he had 1 TD and 5 INT's. Almost as bad as Dalton's first 3. So by your logic he is a terrible postseason performer. Whereas my logic, the sample size is a bit too small for me to fully judge yet. His next 8 games included 18 TD's and 2 INT's (My math could be a bit off, I'm working and not super paying attention). Should Flaco have been let go after the first 5 playoffs games because he played poorly? I also want to be clear, I don't think Andy Dalton is going to become a great playoff performer. I just think 3 bad playoff games is not enough to declare someone a "Garbage" postseason performer.
Flacco wasn't very good until probably the 2011 postseason but he showed he belonged, he made plays to help his team win games even if his #s weren't great. Dalton has literally done nothing but hurt his team who has far more offensive firepower than Flacco ever had.
I was going to comment, but Junc took the words out of my fingers. 3 bad games with amazing talent around him is alarming. Flacco had Ray Rice and Torrey Smith that's it. Good weapons but not as good as what Dalton has. Dalton is a guy whose putting up really good #s with the Bengals, yet continuously fails in the post-season. he had an excellent offensive coordinator as well. No excuse for Dalton to play the way he did
I disagree with your assessment, I think he played awful, and grew up and turned it around very well. I'm just trying to add some perspective to Dalton vs Sanchez in the form of statistics instead of just wins and personal opinion. I think 3 games is way to few games, to declare someone a garbage playoff performer. Especially since Flacco was straight "GARBAGE" his first five games.
But regardless, this isn't really on topic and there is no need to take it any further. 3 games is way too small of a sample size for me, but that doesn't mean it is for everyone.
2008-2010 Baltimore: Flacco, 4-3 record, led O to 18.6 PPG- lost to SB champs, then the next 2 AFC champs Dalton 2011-2013, 0-3 record, led O to 8.7 PPG, lost to teams that didn't even make AFC title game
3 games against not a single big time team including one home playoff game. I get it, a guy can have a bad game here and there but the most pts he ever led his O to in a playoff game was 10. For comparison sake the fewest Mark ever led his Os to was 17 against much better competition.
I'm not saying Dalton is a better playoff performer than Flacco, the numbers themselves say he's not. I'm saying Flacco threw for 1 TD in his first 5 playoff games, and started off his career as a poor playoff performer. He turned it around and ended up having some incredible playoff games. I'm sure there were people who wanted him gone after those 5 games, and they would have been wrong. My whole main point is that 3 games is a small sample size, that's it.
Find one post where someone says if a desired free agent QB is too pricey then maybe keeping Mark if he takes a pay cut would work? Most of the reasons for keeping Mark are that he won 4 road playoff games, people want to see him play with MM calling plays, Sanchez is "better" than most of the free agent QB's, Sanchez "won" the competition last year so let's do round 2, he would be a great backup and mentor for Geno, and if he takes a pay cut why get rid of him. But if Schaub, Hill, McCown, Vick, Campbell etc are all too pricey and Sanchez agrees to a pay cut then that is the only logical reason to keep Sanchez. None of that other garbage some of his fans been spewing.
Not in the eyes of the NFL. If you can't play well in 3 playoff games (at least 1 of the games) - when your team hasn't won a playoff game in God knows how long, that team will start questioning wherever you are the man or not. The Bengals may draft a QB to eventually replace Dalton if he doesn't step up the next time they make the playoffs.
he was not a good playoff player but he wasn't an embarrassment either. I like Dalton but he has been an embarrassment w/ loads of talent around him.
Cant wait till he is cut so they can close this damn thread down.. 48 hours or less and Dirty is gone and so is this thread
