I can pretty much guarantee we make the playoffs... How far we get is another story... If we get the #1 seed, the AFC will have to come through MetLife to get to the bowl.
I see no reason whatsoever to think that the Jet brass has determined to go with Smith as the starter and not have a Qb competition. And that's on top of that it would be stupid to take that approach. So, someone like McCown, or really any other vet Qb option, would be saying to themselves they would have to merely beat out the worst starting qb in football last year for him to become the starter on the Jets. What other team would present an easier and more predictable path to a vet Qb becoming the starter? Don't listen to the Smith homers here who think the CS and FO have already inked him in as the starter. Imo if he ends up there it will be because they simply could not get a deal done to upgrade, which would be a real shame.
It's funny how you guys would rather have McCown, who is 34 and probably one hit away from the end, come in and start for the New York Jets over a young promising QB in Geno, who lead us to an 8-8 record with arguably the worst offense in the league... Wait till Geno gets some weapons... McCown was throwing to Jeffries and Marshall.. Of course he looked like a superstar.
Hahaha... I think we have a great chance though.. We went 8-8 and we are only about to get younger, faster, and more experienced this off-season... No reason to think that 11-5 or even 12-4 is out of the question..
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet 4m Redskins, Browns, too RT @NFL: RT @NFL_ATL: Jairus Byrd drawing real interest from Miami Dolphins So we are just going to let this guy go to the Dolphins?
I agree. The poster that I was responding to seemed like he wanted to fill every whole through a big free agent signing (Decker + Byrd + Verner + Allen, etc. etc. etc.) which we simply can't do. Getting Verner, a competent OG and a few potential wide receivers in free agency would be great, though. Maybe even a decent OLB. We don't want any glaring needs going into the draft, but I also hope that the draft can give us some 2014 starters.
without getting they stupidly back loaded all the contracts last year... like we did in 2009-2011 and screwed us after that

Well that sucks for them. Wonder if Byrd watch will be like Nmadi watch for the Jets (Think you can afford him in actuality you are fucked)

Folks, today will be one painfully long, speculative day where we gobble up rumors and educated guesses "by the people in the know" like gospel. I for one would be happy as a clam to get a couple of outstanding performers to join the ranks of the NYJ as a way of supplementing the draft and providing us with more flexibility to grab BPA and avoid over reaching for pressing need. Of note my wishes would be Verner, Asamoah and Clemons. That would put us in a position to draft either a top OLB, WR, or TE or even an OT and never look back. I almost bought into the rumor mill that Verner is as good as signed. But the reality is that there isn't an ounce of evidence that any and all of these rumors are worth a damn. You can bet teams like Washington, the Rams, Miami and the like will over pay and over trade their souls for some of these, Byrd for one, but not us. Idzik will look for true value or pass. He will not get in the middle of a bidding war. So I'm cautiously optimistic that we get some real help through free agency, but it might probably be along the lines of a solid but unspectacular name, a true value hidden under the free agency radar, like Ivory, and not necessarily any of the marquise names on everybody's list. Hope I'm wrong and we take this opportunity to make some upgrades, within reason. Time will tell, but this speculative wait and see period is an absolute nightmare for a Jet fan looking for improvements before the draft.
i think this will get done before 4pm tomorrow. guy doesn't seem money hungry and we haven't heard any crazy demands.
Rich Cimini @RichCimini 13m Jets remain interested in CB Alterraun Verner, per source. As always, it'll come down to money. #Jets
after seeing cro walk i think this is a lock for us. no way we are going into the season with millner being our #1 CB
