i was just talking about the defence...i dont think they have a clue about scheme fit on the offense haha
That's how I see it too. If you give Rex Ryan a good player he will find a way to make him a special player in his scheme. Even if he doesn't seem to fit what Rex has previously done. One of the things that is very under-appreciated about Rex Ryan is how often he morphs his defense and scheme to get the best out of his players. I don't think the Jets have run the same defensive scheme in any of the 5 years he has been coach. That's also why his defenses tend to stay near the top. There's no film you could have on Rex's D last year or historically that's going to help you with what he's going to do today.
I wasn't sure what was going on when we started courting Verner, but now I do. Verner and Millner are pretty versatile, they are good in both man and zone coverage. A lot of big plays Millner made last season were while we were in zone coverage. I was under the impression Verner didn't have any experience in Man coverage. He does. I wouldn't mind seeing more zone coverage from the Jets. Especially if we can generate more TOs. I like the Verner fit.
Adam Caplan @caplannfl 10h On G Jon Asamoah and the #Falcons, 1 NFL source said it would be a "small upset" if he didn't wind up signing w/ATL to play RG.
maybe..... but they would be a whole lot better if the jets could improve the pass rush more......gotta get that edge speed in here - that will go a long way for the secondary.
Absolutely. They need to strike gold on an OLB in this years draft.. simple as that.. I don't expect this defense to get to the elite level overnight, but with the direction I think this is going, we are going to be tough as nails on D. We are in this for the long term..
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/10/report-jairus-byrd-looking-for-9-million-per-season/ According to this report, Jets aren't listed as an interested team
The Fins and the Rams. Exactly the kind of teams you'd think would be willing to overpay for a prime free agent. By which I mean frustrated, unable to get over the top, in a funk, etc.
Building through free agency is foolish. I would love the Verner signing and I want to sign a #1 wide receiver, but successful teams build through the draft by finding starters in the draft. For the first time in a long time we have a good cap situation. Idzik needs to keep it that way for the next few years and slowly build our players if we are going to have long-term success. We can significantly improve this off-season, but it will NOT happen if we try to follow the Eagles' "dream team" plan.
How do the Fins have all of this money is what surprises me. They are going after Brandon Albert from the Chiefs also. They owe Mike Wallace close to 17M next season.
They let Jake Long go last year and their QB is on a rookie deal. And of course the cap is much higher than expected this year. Nearly $7M higher than most teams thought.
Brian Costello @BrianCoz 47s Jets and RT Austin Howard still negotiating, but Howard now drawing interest from other teams, according to source. #nyj
unfortunetly we dont have time for it.. rex needs to win now, he needs inpact players right away and unfortunetly cannot risk hoping late round picks.. new coach + new systems - players that dont fit the system = new players all over again
That's why you have the GM as a distinct position on the org chart with different responsibilities in terms of maintaining a competitive roster. Idzik's responsibility is slanted towards the near-term with some long-term vision required. Rex's responsibility is next year with some near-term vision required. It's a proven formula for building a competitive team over time.
Just heard McCown on Mike & Mike this am--he's talking to 4 teams but anybody thinking he's going to be content being a backup somewhere or that he's going to retire soon are kidding themselves. He said it himself, he's looking to go somewhere he can start or compete to start. And he's going to want a contract commensurate with that. _
He would be my ideal vet QB to compete with Geno at the camp. But I think he will ask for more money than we can afford. Let's see what happens.
ok and if what ever plan they have doesnt work.. you dont think woody is just going to blow it all up?.. we already went away from the formula when we hired a gm that didnt get to pick his coach (i wanted rex).. but im just saying.. this team doesnt have a proven formula for building anything.. if rex doesnt make the playoff this year.. hes prob going to be fired.. thats why we need impact players this year
