Hell no to Decker. He is not a true #1 receiver and is clearly a product of Manning. I don't want him, especially at the price tag he will command. Fuck no.
Thats not fair to Decker he put up good numbers with Tim fucking Tebow as his QB. Price tag is different, I wouldn't pay him more than 6.5 a year. Whoever we sign or draft must have some size, we can not keep trotting out a bunch of midgets at the WR position just because they have speed.
He put up 600 yards with Tebow and 8 TDs. With Manning he had 1000+ and 1200+ with 11 and then 13 TDs. It's apparent Manning had something to do with his success.
I agree and I understand he only had 44 catches as opposed to 80+ with Manning, but there are just too many factors in this. They had a ton of weapons to worry less about Decker, including the Thomas brothers. Decker has never been a true #1 and I think he will be severely exposed when a team makes him one. He hides behind guys like Demarius Thomas to make a living.
Julius Thomas was a nobody before this season and Demarius was nobody before Peyton as well, you can't shit on a receiver just because he plays with a Great QB. Fact is Decker still put up over 1000 yards even with all the targets that team has.
I think the real #1 WR prospects in this draft are still just Watkins, Evans and Lee. I think Cooks, Beckham and Matthews all have the possibility of being a #1 but big questions alongside that possibility. Cooks is small and will probably have trouble as a feature receiver without real help alongside him. Beckham has never carried the load so you just don't know if he can do that. Matthews has carried the load and has the size but there are escapability issues that may prevent him from from being reliable against a top NFL CB.
Agreed. ... I know I'm in the minority on this, but I would rank them 1) Lee, 2) Watkins, 3) Evans. I would be satisfied with any of those guys, but the one I really want is Lee. If they draft Marqise Lee at #18 (or even trade up a couple spots for him) I will be jumping up and down with joy!
Lee #1 wow just wow... If they traded up for Lee it would be the worst draft move ever by the Jets and that includes trading up for Sanchez. Your entitled to your opinion though and good for you for sticking up for a player YOU feel is going to be a stud. Simularly I have a really good feeling Benjamin is going to be a beast in the NFL and stand by my instincts.
I wouldn't trade up for the guy, but I feel as though Lee is the best fit for our offense going into this year. Lee is just hella aggressive, dudes a gifted overall athlete, with a balanced package of physical ability and traits seen in other draftees. A jack of all trades, above average in all departments despite not being the best at any one thing like his projected 1st compatriots might be. I just love the dudes passion and adeptness at being used in multiple ways as a receiving threat, I get the feeling he can muster running any route MM wants and be successful at every one, be a real fun toy to play with for 'em (not to mention he returns kicks!) I'd be happy with Evans but he's a little less multidimensional, a phsyical receiver thats built on his toughness thats really only effective as a pure wideout. he'll be a good one in the long run, with better separation and speed than his bulkiness or reputation implies, but not to the extent that Lee can reach, not really. And like Rex said Watkins, a guy who's obviously better than Lee, isn't gonna be available. he's my favorite of the bunch, a perfect replacement for Holmes a perfect fit for an offense looking for a dynamic playmaker to use.
I wouldn't trade up for anybody in this draft. It's just not worth the long-term costs and really nobody is smart enough to know that a trade up is the right move. You can't outsmart a knee.
I'm not saying I would definitely trade up for him, just that I would be on board with the move if they did. Let's say the Ravens are on the clock, and both Watkins and Evans are already gone. Balt. is considered a possible landing spot for Lee. Or, what if it's the pick before the Ravens and both Watkins and Evans are gone....would you trade up a couple spots, maybe giving up one of our two 3rd round picks (or a 4th) to get Lee? I would do that in a heartbeat. I remember when Robert Woods and Lee were both at USC, they were saying that Woods is a good prospect but the real gem is Lee, and they were calling him a top 5 overall talent. He's still the same guy...so, that's why I'd trade up for him in those scenarios I outlined.
Here ya go WW: @RichCimini: Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg attended WR Brandin Cooks pro day yesterday (Oregon State). #Jets have been "all over him," per source.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...ets-show-serious-interest-in-uscs-marqise-lee PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE draft Marqise Lee, I would even trade up for him! Watch the video, this guy is LEGIT!
Because we don't have one need to make this team a playoff contender. Why trade up and lose picks for one receiver when there are glaring holes in multiple positions?
I hear what you're saying, but we have a lot of picks this year. Why draft a bunch of mediocre/lowly prospects when we can get one stud WR? When I was a little kid, I learned not to trade my Reggie Jackson baseball cards for a bunch of common players. Same concept here. ....and we are close than you think; if we get DRC, then I would say we might very well be just a WR away. We have very few holes on this roster, and no significant one...
Very few holes? We need more than one receiver, we need a TE, we need offensive lineman, we need a safety, we need a backup qb, etc. Trading up in the first round is gonna cost a lot. If this draft was not so deep with talent, then maybe, but through the first three rounds you can get some solid guys.
WR: We have Decker, Kerley, and Nelson. Just need a #1. TE: We have Cumberland, good enough. He's a solid receiver. OL: We just need a guard, but we can find one in the draft. S: Antonio Allen and Dawan Landry are plenty good enough there. Backup QB is not important; if he's forced into action, the season is toast anyway. Few teams have good backup QBs. Except for #1 receiver, I don't see any gaping holes. We'll get a guard by the time the season starts, and our defense is set if we sign DRC. Except for "window dressing" here and there, we're good to go already. Just trade up for Lee and we're all set, if you ask me!
