Agree completely. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't already have a 'handshake' agreement with one of the FA CBs.
I agree with what you said falco i think verner is coming here which i am very excited for. Ive wanted verner since the season ended. Also with a lot of players wanting to play for rex and we have a young high potenial team i think he would choose jets over vikings because of rex and its nyc and we have a young team im really praying we get verner great player
That's what I thought, and with Verner saying he wasn't going to make any visits, then if he signs with the Jets immediately on Tuesday, I don't see how the Jets could avoid getting nailed for tampering.
Cro himself said he expected to be cut at the end of the season and went on to say he hoped he could restructure a deal and come back..the first part has happened and thanking the fans, now that I think about it, is something he should do in case it doesn't work out. For sure there is no deal in place that would be announced on Tuesday. The Jets may wait to see what kind of deal he can get and then decide whether to match it or not..this could drag out for weeks.
Why would they? He is going to hit free agency. Teams are allowed to contact and talk with these guys. They told him that he would have a starting job with the money he wants. He says ok and signs with us. That's not tampering. That's playing by the rules.
For everyone wondering about tampering with Verner. Here is the rule: "Beginning at midnight ET on Saturday, March 9 (i.e., after 11:59:59 p.m. ET, on Friday, March 8 ) and ending at 3:59:59 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 12, clubs are permitted to contact, and enter into negotiations with, the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2012 Player Contracts at 4 p.m. ET on March 12. However, a contract cannot be executed with a new club until 4 p.m. ET on March 12." Teams ARE permitted to enter into contract negotiations
Thanks for posting that. They must have changed the rule, because that's not how it used to read. It used to be that teams couldn't contact a player until FA began, which would be Tuesday.
Maybe but it wouldn't happen..this is the official tampering season and every team is tampering from Friday till Tuesday and NOBODY will get in trouble for it.
According to the post above that quotes the FA rules it appears that you can contact and enter into negotiations with the player's agent 3 days before FA begins.
No surprise this happened now because starting today teams can negotiate with impending Free Agents. Jets probably started with Verner this afternoon
They have to have something up their sleeve if they cut him. Milliner is not ready to be a CB1 and Wilson does a good job in the slot -- I would not move him. I would be ecstatic with a Verner signing followed by a Byrd signing
Why does everyone think we're definitely gonna get Verner? There were like 7 teams interested in him. I know with the timing it looks like we have a good chance but I think it's premature to think we'll definitely get him.
