The comment in question was "...And for every Alex Smith you have many QB's that never amount to anything..." implying Sanchez is more likely to follow the career path of the latter rather than the former. I challenge this by asking how many of the many who never amounted to anything began their careers with a winning record and 4 playoff victories in their first 4 seasons?
If he is as good as you pretend he is then the other 31 teams in the NFL will be fighting among themselves to sign him to a 100 million dollar contract and make him the starter the day after he is cut.
I think at this point, parting ways with Sanchez would be mutually beneficial for him as well as the Jets.
Take away the team success this isn't golf or tennis. Look at his individual play. QB's that begin their careers playing like Sanchez never turn it around. In the last 15 years only Eli, Alex and Stafford have turned it around after a poor start.
Depends how well Carrol can hide Sanchez. Run heavey, great D, the team could still make the playoffs. They wouldn't be nearly as good though. The drop off from Wilson to Sanchez is huge.
Great statement, Wilson isn't an elite stat man but he does two things that Sanchez wasn't able to do with a similar team behind him (aka very good defense and very good running game). Wilson is accurate (efficient) and doesn't throw many picks (2.5% and 2.2% interception ratio). Both are things Sanchez has never been.
The jets aren't going to find an elite top tier franchise qb this off season. At best they find a decent 1 year stop gap qb. Judging by the deals Henne and Cassel signed a guy like Vick or Schaub is going to cost way to much for a potential backup. Sanchez still offers the best in terms of a guy that can push/challenge smith, can be a veteran backup, can help on the sideline with a young qb, and come at a reasonable price.
100% he will be cheaper. Plus cutting him costs $4.8 million. They should be able to rework his deal and still come in around that same cap number. You cut him and pay 4.8million plus signing buck or Schaub and you end up with a large number for a potential back up qb over 30 that was benched last year for poor performance.

I don't think it's such an earth-shattering opinion on Woodie's part. First off Woodie played with Sanchez so there might be a little loyalty factor involved but more to the point Andy Dalton is so-so at best and has been less than so-so in post season games. While his arm's not as lacking in zip as some suggest (though his elbow's too low and he looks like he's "pushing/aiming" the ball at times) he does make some boneheaded decisions when pressed (yes, you can say the same thing about Sanchez). But as an example, Dalton's fumble in their playoff game was just brutal. I wouldn't want him on the Jets.
