IMO he was terrible in 2011, 2010 was the year he took a step forward after his poor rookie season (minus the playoff run where he played well). He had good moments in 2011 but he had some really really dreadful performances that year as well. The Ravens game, Giants game, Eagles game, second Dolphins game, and that disaster in Denver really jump out at me.
All i'm saying is Schaub's won a playoff game as well. And Houston not making the title game with Schaub doesn't make Mark better.
he's won a single playoff game playing many more years w/ a team that was expected to be a playoff team in most of them. Mark has 4 playoff wins, all on the road against superior competition.
or maybe b/c we played much better teams. and isn't it funny how mark outplayed most of his counterparts at that key position?
Hence the reason we beat a lot of them. Mark played well or decent in almost all the games. It's a shame he doesn't do it in the regular season, where unfortunately, the vast majority of the entire season takes place.
it's hard to win in January, it was nice to know we had a guy we knew we could win with. of course consistency in the reg season was in issue for him but how about we surround him w/ weapons instead of stripping them away like we have since the end of the 2010 season?
Coaching and FO definitely played a part. They let him down. Cotchery and Edwards never should have been allowed to walk after that 2010 season, although it looks like Edwards was done. But all the blame can't be placed everywhere but on the actual player himself. He was still poor with decent talent in 2011, and even though he had no talent in 2012 he was downright awful. The guy was still the 5th overall pick in the draft going into his 4th year. You can't be that bad. Good QB's can help make players better then they really are as well. I think in 2012 the Jets thought they had young but promising skill players and Holmes. And a QB on the rise. Turns out they had nothing at the skill positions, but they also found out that they didn't have what they thought they had at QB either.
in 2011 he led a top ranked red zone offense and had 26 TD passes and 6 Runs tied Namath for the best TD number in Jets history. He had mistakes, but you would have liked to see development that improved on his positives and corrected his negatives.
he wasn't nearly as good as 2010 but to ay he was poor in 2011 isn't being fair. he was good in 2011, just not good enough.
I didn't make it(see link at bottom) but I thought you guys would like this http://www.ganggreennation.com/2014/3/7/5482430/the-official-ggn-mark-sanchez-tribute-video
I'd be interested to know what Sanchez's numbers would look like playing with a consistent set of weapons, the likes of Johnson, Foster and Daniels with Kubiac calling plays vs. Schaub's with the myriad combinations of skill players we've had and with Schitty or Sparano making the calls.
Not bad, the guy plays for four years and somebody got almost five minutes of highlights out of it, even if some were repeats.
I'd be interested to know what his numbers would look like playing with Jerry Rice and Tony Gonzalez backed by Emmit Smith and Walter Payton with Vince Lombardi calling the plays and Knute Fuckin' Rockne as head coach but it doesn't mean shit.
He had to many brutal games that year. He had some good ones, some decent and acceptable ones. But the bad games he had, got really really bad. That's a problem. A good QB doesn't consistently have games where he doesn't show up and is putrid. Mark has to many of those games. He'll put together a decent stretch of games and then revert back to his old ways. 2011 was a great example for this IMO.
Can't just blame the coordinators. Schottenheimer was crap, Sparano was crap, the talents not any good. I'm not disputing some of that. But some accountability has to be put on the actual player playing the position. The truth of the matter is that from 09-11 the talent around him was more then acceptable. I've seen guys do more with less. Maybe if Sanchez was any good he would have hid the fact that Schotty wasn't the greatest OC or it at least wouldn't have been as noticeable. Why are teams requesting to speak with Schotty about their Head Coaching vacancies during his time with and after he left the Jets? Just look at it from the other perspective, maybe Schotty just has never had a QB to work with? I'm not saying i'm a Schotty fan but if we can use the excuse for Mark why can't it be used for Schotty? I mean he left the Jets and Jeff Fischer hired him to be his OC right away... I've said it before. MM had a good amount of time last year to watch Mark play. If the Jets decide not to bring him back, that probably tells you what the brightest offensive mind in the Jets organization thinks of him as well...
