I'd be happy with this, ecstatic in fact, but I just don't see why Sanchez would want this? He has to know he could be a starter elsewhere, why wouldn't he want that opportunity ?
You are right, it was 2012, 2011 was when the great tim Tebow went into NE and put up a Schaub like performance. Mark helped 2 teams reach title games, in far more years Schaub, w/ more talent, never got close to a title game. The closest Houston came to a title game was w/ TJ Yates at QB.
This is thread is full with grass is greener. If you can keep Sanchez you keep him until we get someone better as a backup or a starter. Shaub is on the downside of his career and is just not good anymore why would we want him? We as Jet fans need Geno to step-up but what I saw that MM had to do make Geno passable and his fundamental flaws that is a long shot. Sanchez gives you familiarity with the offense some past success and better than most JAGS out there. Keep Sanchez if he restructures if not let him go. If anybody thinks Geno or Sanchez are a sure thing has not watched them play. For those that think Sanchez is done did not really watch TC and preseason last season. The play he got hurt he made a great move in the pocket and delivered a strike. Even in 2012 Sanchez showed flashes he just follows that up with mentally stupid mistakes which is why some of us think age and maturity will help Sanchez. Geno will be the starter going into camp it is up to him to improve and keep the spot.
Sanchez holds trade value to under a restructured contract. Teams last season were REALLY desperate for a QB, I remember people saying, "damn if only Sanchez was healthy" because teams would have tried to get him. When these front offices know they are under fire, they dont care about the future considering once the season ends they will be out of a job anyway.
I have yet to see a link where Mark publicly has said, "I will take less money" - it maybe conventional wisdom at this point, but it's not confirmed by Mark. Mark's reps need for him to completely rip that contract in half and sign a 1 yr cap friendly deal.
The Jets will cut him and resign him. Personally I am saying a 1 year deal but that doesnt mean thats what the jets or Sanchez want. Sanchez has made money already, would it be smarter to take the 1 year/4 million or the 3 year/10 million? I see Sanchez taking the 1 year because: A) It has a lot of upside if he plays well (I am not here to debate whether he plays or not) B) He will get signed in a year regardless C) If he doesn't get any play time then he goes elsewhere in a year anyway. Its not like he's going to be rolling the dice, he really has everything to gain and nothing to lose.
I don't have a love affair with him lol Don't get me confused with other posters. If he's gone, so be it, move on. If he stays, cool let's see what he has left. I am in no way a die hard Sanchez fan.
Maybe because he wont be a starter elsewhere? If he was, he wouldnt want to sign back here. The Jets are the only team dumb enough probably to sign a scrub QB like him.
Schaub has won a playoff game as well. Got just as far as Yates. But all that does is prove my point. You don't have to be a great or even good QB to win a playoff game. Like you said "The closest Houston came to a title game was w/ TJ Yates at QB." It's obviously a lot harder to win without a good QB but if you have a strong team around him you can win.
Why is Schaub just not good anymore? Cause he had his first bad year last year? Mark's had bad years also, but it's ok to keep him cause he's younger? Schaub's 32, not 42. He'll be 33 by the time the season starts. People are acting like he's an old man.
I see a guy that in 2011 was on the cusp of taking that next step with an average running game, a sub par offensive line, one legit receiver in Keller, one disgruntled receiver in Holmes, and one over the hill ex-con in Burress with an OC on his way out. They just made so many mistakes in 2012 with the coaching, team dynamic, personnel, game plan etc. I would be interested to see if Sanchez can come in win the job and become the guy many hoped he would turn into after 2011.
Houston had a chance to win a div rd game w/ Yates, they were blown out w/ Schaub at QB. Houston has had a very strong team around Schaub and couldn't get close to even a title game w/ him.
