Some fans and probably a few die harts in the organization still believe that Mark could be a starting Qb. The question is does Idzik feel that way. And if Mark's agents are willing to take a conditional deal and a big cut does he think Mark is as good if not better than other options as a backup to Geno or even a potential starter. Is this going to be all about money: if Mark comes in at 3 mil vs Vick at 5 or 6 for McCown is it about crunching numbers esp for a potential backup or getting the best available player. I personally think you can get someone a lot cheaper to fill that slot. The Steelers signed Gradkowski last year for about 2 mil per and he's not a bad player at all. That's the direction I'd go. No Mark no Vick no McCown (who'll ask for a lot of money). I wouldn't sign Mark at any price even if it does make sense which it doesn't.
I think Mark would take a 1 year contract to come back here, prove himself, and get a payday from someone.
Every fan's favorite player is the back-up QB. Unless your a Jets fan and your back-up QB rhymes with Nacho.
Going to be hard to prove himself riding the bench. Maybe his clipboard holding skills will draw some attention and another team will pick him to hold their clipboards....
If it is Sanchez vs Smith in camp this Spring either one has just as a good a chance to start opening day.
the jets need to move on....if by some crazy thing sanchez is still here and there is another so called QB comp - its going to keep a bit of negative/comical vibe on the team - and we just dont need that with the nice finish to last year and what looks to be a promising off season with respect to getting more talent in here.
prove what? that he can still throw a ton of back breaking picks, be super inaccurate, and suck in general?
exactly...even if sanchez goes elsewhere and by some miracle plays decent, its still a GREAT move to get rid of him 1) he is terrible, and we are never winning with him here were HE is the reason we win games 2) he has had all the chances here and sucked every single year. it wont work here time to move on 3) the fans hate him and are ready to boo any second. that gets the team down and divides a locker room 4) we have young wide outs and will get more. you dont want them developing with a terrible inaccurate QB
There will be a QB competition in 2014 no matter who the other QBs are. They aren't sold on Smith so there will be a battle. What will cause as more of a circus vibe - Smith vs Vick, Smith vs Schaub, or Smith vs Sanchez? Sanchez would cause the least amount of headlines and cause the least amount of waves.
Come on, Sanchez is not the guy for this team or this fan base any longer. He had his chance. He blew it. Public safety demands his departure. The first pick six he throws would have forty people storming the field and forty thousand storming the parking lots.
i am aware of the potential for a QB comp - but can u seriously say that Sanchez would cause the least amt of headlines. no way i agree with that.
Sanchez had a total of 6 pick-sixes in the 4 years he played. Do you know who threw 5 pick-sixes in just one year last year? Not saying Sanchez should be back, but using pick-6's as a criteria for Jet fans storming the field or the parking lot probably isn't the best gauge. _
Sanchez has started 62 games and has thrown 68 TD's and 69 INT's. Matt Schaub has started 90 games, has thrown 130 TD's and 84 INT's. I understand that this isnt the point you were trying to make but Schaub is clearly the better player. Question is, how much does he have left in the tank, and is he finished or not?
