The only thing that worried me about this trade was how many years MSL had left on his deal...but he only has one year at five million which is certainly manageable considering the amount of money and years Callahan wanted. I still like and respect Cally and I'll still miss him but I like this trade when it's all said and done
pretty much a terrible trade. how do you throw in high picks like that, along with Callahan, for a guy turning 39? i wouldve kept the picks, and took the chance on losing Cally for nothing if we couldn't work out a deal.
only if he was locked up at $5M. Cally was going to be a 6.5+ player for the next 6-7 years, If you look at it that way this is a fair deal
Fair? more like risky. now way cally lasts 6-7 years with his style of play. Sather knew cally was out after the season, so he made a trade for a top 5 NHL goal scorer. Yea, he has 2-4 years tops left in him, but he brings a big goal scorer to the Rangers something they need now. As far as the draft picks go, I think the Rangers have some dept in yong talent already.
I'll say this about St. Louis, that guy is in better shape at 38 than most players in the league. Research his workouts, he's like a Tony Gonzalez case where his age kind of goes out the window because of how conditioned he is coupled with his skill.
I can get the trade...but I dont get the draft picks. Thats tough to swallow. Whether it be for a rental...this guy is still producing at the age of 39 real soon but rental divided by age is enough for me. I do not understand the picks..high picks.
When your GM is a 71 year old cancer survivor that doesn't know how to properly build a team, you end up trading multiple draft picks for a 39 year old winger. And I love MSL. Either all of our top prospects live up to their potential, or this team is in the toilet within two years.
Thats the thing MR...I dont care what he does..I like SL...a lot..but he did nothing to take care of that problem which is the biggest thing that could keep this team from going far. You get HL on fire in the playoffs and anything can happen and you do nothing for toughness other than to aquire two guys during the year that are willing to drop the gloves and hit..both together do not weigh 360. You give up first round picks and second round picks which teams would jump at in a trade that probably could have been done with a 3rd and a 5th and do nothing for the size issue. You also give up one of the few guys that was willing to go to the front of the net and hit...regardless of how ineffective he was at times. I dont get it.
Vanek to the Habs for 2nd round pick and a prospect. That's how you make a trade, Sather. Vanek is a rental. But he's only 30 years old, and a 40 goal scorer.
Another great move Miller sent down Dorsett back in, fuckin' idiots, another stupid penalty awaits and 4 minutes of ice time...
