Since Woody likes headlines , would he be tempted to draft him ? He has been dropping lately in mock drafts . I think it would be a HUGE mistake .
If he drops to 18 I'm sure there is a reason, so I assume the Jets would probably pass, or preferably trade out.
i would be pissed if we took him at any point in the draft. if we spent a 5th round pick on him i would be annoyed. the kid is a douche who doesnt have the game for the nfl. he will get ruined and be out of hte league in 3 years. and will create such a fucking uproar in the time he is around it will drive everyone nuts. definitely not the type of guy i would want on my team if i ran one.
I don't think you take him unless you're convinced that he will develop into at least a solid NFL starting QB. I think he's a quasi-boom or bust prospect. He has a very high ceiling, but a low floor due to his small size, his propensity to run at the first sign of trouble, and his character. If I'm Idzik and Manziel drops, I'm either hoping and praying that someone will blow me away with a trade down offer or there's a guy that I have rated very highly, who would have been or is the bpa at that spot, and he's a player that plays a position of great need like WR or OLB.
Johnny Football is going to have a short, injury-plagued career in the NFL IMO. I'd hope to get trade offers from teams wanting him at 18 before we even consider drafting him.
Jets will take him. Manziel will bring the PSLs to Woody's door-step. Manziel is the definition of boom or bust. If the Jets can get proven weapons around Manziel, then it could work-out. If you are asking Manziel to carry the team with a bunch of no-namers, it's a total waste at 18
Manziel seems like a douche but he's also proven he's a gamer. I'd feel much better in the mid to late 20's but at 18 I think you'd still have to grab him.
If one of Manziel/Bortles/Bridgewater is there you turn the card in no questions asked but that's not happening. All 3 are pretty much guaranteed to be gone by the 9th pick in the draft. I'm glad we aren't in a position to get them because I feel Geno deserves another season to show us he can be our guy and we need to take the player who most improves our team with this pick.
It depends. What does Idzik think of Geno? if he thinks Geno is the guy we take a WR/TE. Ive tried to evaluate Manziel and it is honestly one of the most difficult players ive evaluated. He can make the throws, takes a lot of risk, has the ability to run, but can easily get injured. He has a ton of upside but he has a ton of downside to. I really dont think he will drop but its certainly possible he does. Texans - Will they take Clowney? Perhaps Obrien believes he can turn Schaub around similar to how Harbaugh turned Alex Smiths career around. Rams - They are on the record saying they believe in Bradford Jaguars - Gus Bradley is a defensive guy, would he want a guy that takes a lot of risks? Or does he takes Bridgewater? Raiders- They could Bortles over Manziel, but in all likelyhood this is where Manziel would land if he is available Falcons - No Bucs - Maybe Vikings - Yes Lions - No Titans - Yes Giants - Yes Needless to say, Manziel wont drop, and if he does drop the Giants will take him.
I was kidding about the Giants, and yeah I dont know how I skipped the Browns but I did. They would take him to. I wonder if the 49ers would trade up to get Manziel...its been proven these 18+ million QBs DO NOT WIN, and it strips the teams of the ability to bring in other players. Its not to crazy to think the 9ers might grab the Rams spot and take a QB. Im not going to count on it but it does make you wonder. *Rams probably wouldnt make that trade within the division
Their greatest player in franchise history is a guy who was dream for the media always getting in trouble. If they think a player can play and help them win they would draft him. Eli had top 10 weapons last year and was than Mark Sanchez 2012. It was his 2nd 25 INt year in 4 years in what is supposed to be his prime. They took a QB last year but if a bug guy dropped I wouldn't rule it out for them.
Yeah anyone who thinks the reason Eli struggled so much was because of the supporting cast is a complete fool. Eli had Nicks, Cruz, ETC. Yes the Oline regressed but since when is that an excuse? Facing pressure is part of the game, Romo has been running for his life for his entire career and he has yet to get a pass because of the Oline. Its like the people who excused Peyton because the Oline collapsed, UMM since when is pressure not part of this game? if the QB cant handle the pressure, then they are partially to blame to.
Who cares about PSLs except Woody? You don't draft a QB based on whether he'll sell PSLs or not unless your owner orders you to. You also don't draft a boom or bust QB at #18 in the first round, especially with all the holes the Jets have, either. IMO, if you're the Jets, the only way you draft Manziel at #18 is if you are absolutely convinced that he will be a star/boom, without one shred of doubt.
I doubt the Jets are looking for a ringmaster for the circus at this point. If they took Manziel it would be because multiple people in the organization were sold on him, at a minimum Idzik, Rex, Marty and Woody. Idzik clearly believes in developing a consensus on most issues. I doubt that he'd take a guy the organization was split on with the 1st pick.
