It's not that cut and dried imo. I think it depends upon which WRs (if any) the Jets have targeted in FA, and how discussions have been going with those players agents or the players themselves, and if they think they can realistically sign one/any of them. If not, the Jets absolutely MUST sign at least one FA WR so they don't have to go into the draft having no one but Kerley, Nelson and Hill at WR, or worse, have to bring Holmes back. In addition, we don't know how Idzik will approach FA with lots of cap space. Will he change his competition mantra and just sign some guys who would definitely be starters, or will he sign some mid-tier guys who will provide an upgrade, solid depth, competition and insurance in case the draft doesn't go our way? Since he knows the system already, he's more valuable to us than perhaps to any other team. Finally, other teams are going to be looking to sign veteran FA WRs too. A team like the Pats could gobble him up. He would help their WR corps a lot too.
Brandon Browner tweets he was reinstated by the NFL. Worth signing? Ehh he's got size but what's really going to stop him from going back to his old ways? What do you guys think?
I would say absolutely to this. He was more than pretty solid on the Seahawks, and since our cornerback position is a little unknown as to how strong or weak it will be, this would be a great signing. But is he a free agent or is he still signed?
meh, hill, kerley, nelson, holmes = hill, kerley, nelson, avant if the pats get him so what? we miss out on him, so what? he is a j.a.g. and i wouldn't waste time that could be devoted to chasing a younger better w.r. talking to him when free agency opens.
I saw something earlier today, don't remember which site. it stated 5 free agents that we could be in play for. 1. Jairus Byrd 2. Golden Tate 3. Brandon Pettigrew 4. Mike Vick/Josh McCown 5. Vontae Davis
He's a free agent but I think he's one strike away from being banned for a year. He's lucky the NFL reinstated him and didn't ban him for the 2014 season
I don't disagree that the team has too many average players. That said, they have to have people that can play, and this past season, they didn't have competent WRs on the field. Avant is at least competent. Another factor to consider is that if the Jets sign Avant it could help negotiations with another FA or two. They could say they have less cap space and it would give them a little more leverage at the WR position; otherwise, they have zero leverage with any FA WR.
The Idzik connection will either draw us or deter us. I agree though I think he would be a great fit in Rex's D...
Why? He's older and has issues. Wasn't he suspended for peds or drug use? I don't think they need Browner at all.
LOL Sorry, but I'm afraid you'll have to translate. I'm an old fart and don't understand "hip" lingo. Are you saying he was suspended for smoking Mary Jane?
Indeed haha.... Probably had a few too many "Hash Browners" as well <--- good little corny joke if you pick up on it lol.
True... I have a feeling Browner's struggles last year had a lot to do with the groin injury not fully healing as well. His presence would really help IMO. We have a questionable secondary still with Cromartie's play last year, is Dee gonna be on the level he was towards the end of the season, and was Wilson's season last year a fluke or is he just a late bloomer?
Browner with Cromartie and Millner covering the slot paired with Jairus Byrd at safety would really make this defense one of the best of all time. Jesus Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
