Byrd is 27 years old and may command 10M to 11M. He's not worth that price. If we can get him for cheaper then sign that beast!
Worilds gets transition tag. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/03/steelers-use-transition-tag-on-jason-worilds/
Have to agree here. Barnes showed some real signs of promise before his injury. There are some nice names in this draft as well. I think that's too much money for a guy like Worlids
Exactly.. I really think Byrd needs to be the top priority.. So much money to spend, I don't care if we overpay him.. Get this man to Florham Park.
Agreed. Plus, Coples really started coming on at the end of the season. This would seem to be a good situation to bring a rookie pass rusher into
Hey we don't have 50 million in cap space, yet. There are still multiple cuts/restructures to go through, so we really don't know. After a few restructures and allocating money for draft picks, that number could be closer to 25 million, depending on who stays and for how much. It's not as cut and dry and the media claims. We will probably pay Howard and might pay Wilkerson as well.
I would've rather had Worilds than Byrd. I'm sick of the patchwork LB corps. We've been making due w/ an old slow LB corps for far too long. We'll never wreak the true benefits of the DL till we field a legit LB corps. Coples & Davis are a good start but Barnes can't stay healthy & if you are counting on Pace to have another 10 sack season you're crazy
Lack of an edge rusher & struggles at both cornerback positions contributed to those deep balls just as much if not more than safety did. You must've forgotten about all the short passes to the flats that turned into backbreaking big plays b/c half our LBS are useless in space.
I agree, but I would rather keep it all in front of us then behind us. At the end of the day, we need both, but personally I rank Safety higher at this point in time.
Believe me when I say that Byrd will INSTANTLY make our secondary ten times better. When you have a competent and pro bowl safety in the secondary, it makes a difference. Well worth the money
Byrd is pretty much the best free agent that will be available. Cant be mad at us pursuing him at all. Idzik doesnt seem like he's into signing hot commodites though, likes to build through draft and stop-gaps until he gets who he wants.
If Idzik wants to copy Seattle's formula of success of having 4 great secondary player he might consider Byrd. Byrd would fit very well with our defense playing center field. But I can't see Idzik paying that much for a safety. $10-11 million is just too much. We may have $40+ million of cap space but it will be gone quick spending that much on safeties. I see us more likely drafting a safety in our 1st 5 picks than spending that much. But Rex would love Byrd. He would be his Ed Reed. I cannot imagine Rex not pushing for Byrd. I guess this will show how much influence Rex has with Idzik. But then again I would rather pay $10 million for a dominant safety then $6-7 million for a number 2 WR. But ideally we would pay neither that much and retool through the draft. With limited receiving options available in FA we might be best off drafting 2 good WRs in a deep draft and investing that money on a safety that is close to a sure thing.
Just scanned bills message boards. They see Byrd as one of the best in the league and are sickened by him leaving for nothing.. We need a pro bowler at safety after watching the secondary last year.
WE get him and i'll go back to saying all the jets have to do is score 21 points to win most football games. Our defense would be NO JOKE!!
Well, one thing about all these players re-signing and getting tagged, it's probably going to narrow the Jets' FA focus to OG, WR, & TE, and if they don't plan to bring Cromartie back, CB. But for all we know, they never had any interest in Maclin or Worrilds to begin with.
