No, if anything we should move back. This draft is so deep with WR's that if we could move back say 10 spots and get a 2nd round pick for it, we would be able to draft a good WR with the 1st round pick and then use the 2nd round pick we received to draft another receiver. A lot of the teams behind us have defensive issues, the only reason I would not trade back though is if Ebron is available.
It'd be really nice if they could avoid that. The trade up in 2001 for Santana Moss was an augur of a bad strategy to come. Not that Moss wasn't a good player but the guy there on 19 was a good player also and the Jets gave up a 4th and a 6th to move up and grab Moss. That was the beginning of the disrespect for the draft process that has permeated the Jets over the last decade.
IMO that 2001 draft was bradways best. u can split hairs about moss but getting moss, jordan, and mackenzie was 3 for 3. the problem came with their contracts. the ravens will be in play for a WR and there is no way evans falls past them.
The Jets failed to get a long-term starter out of the 2001 draft. How and why that happened is irrelevant. When you bundle picks to move up you create roster scarcity for yourself after a few years. Players who are becoming free agents look around and say: "how many good players does this team have? No way I'm not getting mine." The sad thing about the Moss trade up is that the Jets had a legitimate #1 WR in Laveranues Coles and they just let him go because they had other priorities at that point. They'd made a big trade up for another WR. Why bother investing in the one you already have after you've done that?
