Byrd turned down a deal to make him the highest paid safety in the NFL. Rex pays corners, not safeties, good luck.

My guess is he wants equal to or more than what Dashon Goldson got (5 years 41.5 mil). We should just do it

Byrd is 28 next year and he's averaging 13 starts a year in the pros. He's only started a full season once. That's not the guy you want to lock up for 28 to 32.

I was going to say we should go for Demarcus Ware, but he'd cost a lot of money.

I love Ware but he doesn't fit our scheme... He's a 4-3 DE and we need a true 3-4 OLB

Byrd would be a dream fit. He's the FS with great ball skills that we need and it would be plucking him from within the division.

However, i can't see Idzik committing the money to him. IMO he goes to Atlanta or Detroit. I think Ed Reed will be given a shot from the start and we will draft a kid to learn from him next year.

Would people rather have Jarius Byrd or T.J. Ward if both hit the market? I think Ward would come slightly cheaper and is highly effective against the run and the pass, but might not be quite the play-maker Byrd is

We need more a true OLB as i said.. Ware as a OLB was still a pass rusher like a DE, he just didn't have his hand in the dirt... We already have a guy in that role anyways in Coples.

We need to add a back up QB, FS, G, WR, TE and OLB that can cover. I think we can fill those holes through the draft and free agency.

Back up QB - McCowan brings stability to the position.
FS - Ed Reed + draft a FS to learn under Reed and add depth.
WR - Emmanuel Sanders + draft top 10 WR in this class with our 2nd rounder.
TE - Eric Ebron slam dunk playmaking TE with our 1st.
OLB - Jeremiah Attaochu played very well in the senior bowl and is explosive. Great new toy for Rex!
G - Jon Asamoah + Willie Colon With Winters not looking great i think bringing in Asamoah and resigning Colon will bring positve competition and depth to our OL.

We can work these players in our current cap situation as well.

if Byrd makes it to FA I will be shocked if we don't make a major run at him.

Just sucks there are going to be a lot of teams after him.. I think we have a few things we can sell him on that other teams do not.

    1. Rex Ryan is arguably the best defensive mind in the game.
    2. Already familiar with the scheme, so he wouldn't have to learn much.
    3. Close to where he already lives, so he wouldn't have to move too far.
    4. Playing football in the greatest city in the world.
    5. Why the fuck wouldn't you want to be a New York Jet???

I think we could but just saw his dad is a coach in TB, that could sway him more.

They have Dashon Goldson at Free Safety who they just gave a big contract to last year. No way they are going to pay that much between Byrd, Goldson and Revis.. Secondary alone would be like 30+ million against the cap..

what if they trade Revis? there is a new regime, I don't know what Goldson's guaranteed money maybe they look to move him if possible? he's going to keep getting suspended.

Deff possible if they trade Revis, but Goldson is pretty damn good so it wouldn't be much of an upgrade.
