The last time they got weapons for Brady was 2007 and what good is having Revis if Tom is still throwing to guys off the scrap heap? I mean shit, what good is it even having Brady if they never get him any weapons?
So it would be give up a 1st rd and a 4th rd, get back a 3rd rd and they got to use Revis for one year. While the money plays a factor most owners have huge egos and I think the Glazers would rather pay the $16M another year than to basically admit they made a bad decision. Besides all this, though it may just be blowing smoke, Lovie Smith has said the Bucs are going to win or lose with man coverage. I don't see them getting rid of Revis if this is the plan.
the cap is going up significantly, it's not going to be an issue. this would give them the best defensive player when healthy and the best QB of this generation and we'd see more NE SBs.
I think JJ Watt for one has surpassed Revis. He's the best because he has more of an effect on the football field.
he certainly has since Revis has been hurt but a healthy Revis taking away half the field in a pass heavy league is incredibly valuable as well.
Even with New England's window closing they're still the prohibitive favorites in the AFC East next season. They might as well just fast forward to an AFC Divisional game at Foxboro next year. It's almost as much a lock as death and taxes.
When the Pats window closes they're going to become an 8-8 team overnight. If they get unlucky with injuries it's going to be worse than that. When a team is in dynasty mode it's hard to see the coming crash at the end of the cycle. Nonetheless all teams crash and burn when the key players age or injury out and are not replaced.

This is the exact point. The spread is here. It's not going away. One CB can't cover three other receivers when they are spread out. A good QB will always find somebody open to throw too if you give him enough time. The place to put your money is in the DE's and DT's and OLB's that cut down the amount of time the QB has to make the decision as well as play key roles against the run. If you have to put money in the secondary go get a star safety who will cover the TE's and police the middle of the field. That guy costs 20% less than a star CB and has a bigger effect on the game.

In a vacuum yes, but when he takes up 15% of the cap, he doesn't. That results in the other CBs covering the other WRs being of a lower quality, the OLBs/D-line rushing the passer being of a lower quality which gives the QB more time to throw the ball.etc. Revis on a rookie deal is obviously extremely valuable. Revis being paid QB money is not. If you're an offensive coordinator, and you're playing against Revis, you can throw away from him. If there's a stud OLB on the other team, you have less options. You can try to double him, put a TE on him, but he'll likely still get through all the while diverting resources away from the passing game.
Could you imagine if Mallett is just as good as Brady if not better, and we had to deal with another 12 years of this shit??
It's going to be a long time before we see another QB as good as Tom Brady at what he does. Is it possible the Pats will replace the QB in the nick of time? Yeah, but unlikely.
the cap is less of an issue w/ the amount it is going up and w/ no guaranteed money in his deal. for example, Miami just re-signed Grimes. 4 years, $32 mil w/ $16 guaranteed. I don't know how it shakes out from year to year but that's $12 mil on the cap if you average the years and the guaranteed money over the 4 years. Is $4 mil more a cap buster?
