How do people feel about Miami FS Chris Clemons? He's a plus cover safety and it seems that the Dolphins want to move on from him. Rotoworld expects him to seek just a 1-year deal on the market. From what I've gathered, he would seem to be a quality addition and a good compliment for Allen/Landry, who play the run better.
I agree. I wanted Maclin, but I'm now glad he signed with Philly. The Jets don't need to sign a WR coming off a major injury or one who is older and who has missed a lot of games over the last 4 years. They need someone who is more likely to stay healthy and on the field.
I wouldn't be happy if the Jets think he's THE answer at WR. If he's a part of upgrading the WR corps (either adding another FA WR and/or at least one WR in the draft), then I would be happy. He may be the best option. Nicks may price himself out of the market or he may opt to re-sign with the Giants.
not a free agent, but there is rumors going around that Miami may shop or cut Mike Wallace. if that happens, I would be all over him. draft Ebron, Cooks or ODB at 18 then grab ASJ or Fiedorowicz in the second.
No no not at all THE answer but just adding somebody that has been in the league a while and will catch some balls. I'm not sure how many receivers Idzik is looking to add via FA but Jones should be one of them as he's a better option than having Stephen Hill start. James Jones and maybe Brandon LaFell/Emmanuel Sanders/McCluster and then one or two WR in the draft and it will give us something to work with. We'll also have David Nelson who's a big target at 6'5 and seemed to have chemistry with Geno. Think about it...last year Geno was throwing to a crappy Holmes, Hill, Clyde Gates, and Greg Salas. James Jones would be an improvement over any of them
Wait. You're serious? You think the Dolphins might just cut Mike Wallace? And take a $23.8M cap hit? Really?
They are not gonna cut him. Whoever thinks that is completely ignorant. Now, depending what they want in a trade, I might be for that. He's a weapon we could use for sure
He's 25 and has played 15, 16, 13, 15 games before last season. He's still young has only missed and 5 games in 4 years before his knee injury. That's hardly missing a lot.
I want nothing to do with Wallace; he's another Holmes who's just faster, but he would cost us picks and possibly strengthen a division opponent. Pass
My bad. Thanks for the correction. I thought he had some other injury issues and was around 27/28. Regardless, I didn't like his only wanting to sign a one-year contract. I can't blame him, but that wouldn't have been in the Jets' best interests.
I think our focus is misguided. This is one of the deepest drafts for WR's coming up we need to focus on building our WR corps through that draft. Sure now if we could get a veteran guy for a good price I say go for it, but if not there's just far too much talent available to draft this year. One name that has come up this past week that once again could be available is Steve Smith. If there's one player I would love to see be a Jet it's him. No one brings more passion to the game than Stevie. Unfortunately for him he's become more of a decoy the last 2 years so Cam can scramble around. To me I can't imagine anything better than to draft a couple quality WR's and have Steve Smith be that veteran leadership and guidance. Talk about a guy you want players to emulate, I don't know of one better. Yes, he's 34 but has he slowed down? Maybe just a touch but he has looked to me like he's got 2 more years of ball in him at least. If the price is right...
Yeah, I can't believe that Gettelman yutz is disrespsecting Smith so. He would be a HUGE loss to that team, and with the Panthers already needing another quality WR, seriously needing to upgrade about every OL position except Khalil's and with their LT retiring and little cap space, that team could take a serious step back and Rivera have to pay for Gettelman's arrogance.
Looks like Jairus Byrd is going to be a FA. I could easily see that being our big FA splurge this offseason. And I would be fine with it.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...y-to-tag-byrd-or-sign-him-before-free-agency/ I would love to back the truck up for Byrd. He is a pro bowler at a position of desperate need.... Not to mention it would be a good smack in the face to the Bills.
I'll be very interested to see if the Jets go after any big names like Jarius Byrd or Eric Decker.. I'd be more inclined to not do so, but a guy like Byrd could also be a major addition. Do people have any under-the-radar free agents they'd like to see considered? I think Miami S Chris Clemons would be a good addition for coverage duties to the secondary. Miami doesn't want him for some reason and I'm not sure why.. Minnesota ILB Desmond Bishop is coming off of some big injuries, but he's been very effective when healthy and could be worth a shot on a non-guaranteed deal.
Decoud had an awful season according to PFF, apparently (83rd of 86 qualifying safeties). He has been better in the past though so maybe he'd be worth a chance in a new setting. I do like the idea of going to free agency for a safety with coverage skills to team with Allen and Landry, however.
Yes, bring him in, I would be a huge fan of this move. I dont even mind overpaying for him, we are going to have to overpay someone anyway.
