Why are Holmes and Sanchez still on this team?? It is inevitable they are gone, why are we waiting? Is there an actual benefit to waiting like we are? If it were me, these guys would have been gone the first day I was able to ship them out.
We've discussed this in the Sanchez thread, its not inevitable. Dont listen to the Media, it was "inevitable" he would be cut last offseason, it was "inevitable" that Rex would fired after Idziks first year. Dont listen to the media, they are just guessing and have as much credibility as anyone on this board. They are not inside the meetings or the inner workings of the Jets, and neither are we.
Isn't there a deadline date for roster bonuses? Why cut them prior to that when there's a chance something else could happen to other players.
I dont know but perhaps Idzik doesnt want to cut him until after the draft. What if we end up drafting a tight end? what if we end up drafting a defensive player in the second round. Holmes might be willing to restructure if the WR issue is not addressed in the draft or free agency. Im sure Holmes has roster bonuses due but I dont know the exact days.
Holmes apparently has a 1 million dollar bonus, the Jets might eat it if they want to hold on to him until the draft.
Is there an actual detriment to waiting like we are? I never understand these impatient posts. It makes no difference whether cut now or cut 10 days from now. They are working on tons of things at the moment, like Austin Howard's contract. Don't listen to fan speculation about cuts and think it's set in stone either. Both guys could restructure and stay. Ok, what argument do you have for Holmes being cut now rather than 1 day before FA? What if Kerley gets in a car accident tomorrow? What if somebody breaks a leg or gets arrested. You never know. Patience matters in life. Some people have none whatsoever. Last season people were demanding to know why it took a few weeks to hire a GM, as if they have even close to the knowledge required to assess making a move like that. They figured Woody should have hired a guy within a few days or the sky is falling.
I like Idzik's measured approach to everything; it's refreshing and balances out Rex's impulsiveness (see putting Sanchez in the 4th quarter of a meaningless pre-season game). I think one of the factors to Tanny's downfall is that Rex's impetuous nature had rubbed off on him.
Here are the dates, not sure what day Cro's bonus kicks in Holmes March 13 $1 mil Sanchez March 25th $2 mil Cromartie March $5 mil Goodson has a $650K bonus due but not sure of the date Still obviously have some time to make a decision.
Look I personally hope we draft a WR and Holmes exits but its ENTIRELY possible that the WR position is not addressed. What do we do then? I think Idzik has a designed plan in place in which he will go through the motions in order to make moves in free agency and the draft. It probably looks something like this: -Find a free agent WR (He likely has eyes on a certain receiver at a a certain price) if this fails -Draft a WR (again he might have his eyes on certain guys, dont just draft a WR in order to draft a WR, look at Hill) if this fails -Retain Holmes Realistically the options the Jets have are: Holmes+Free Agent WR Holmes+Drafted WR Free Agent WR+ Drafted WR You see in all three situations the Jets either draft or sign a free agent WR, free agency and the draft have not even occured so why cut Holmes when we are not guaranteed to replace him?
Why would we rush it? Unlike the media is saying, Idzik is still evaluating everyone on this roster and that includes Mark Sanchez who is still under contract. He actually was at our facility today being looked at by our doctors and trainers. If his shoulder is healthy and he is willing to take a substantial pay cut, he may stay on board. Why rush anything.
It shows that Idzik isn't being careless, he doesn't have to pull the trigger the first second that window opens. It's calculated and measured approaches that will get us to where we want to be. Acting like this is some kind of awful reflection because we haven't done anything yet, is, silly. We as fans are anxious for certain things to happen, and let's be honest, that's the real reason this thread was created. I've wanted Holmes gone for awhile, so I'm really wanting it to happen too. Patience though. Patience.
I think Soxxx is right and Idzik is taking a measured approach to the whole subject. Everything that he has done so far seems to indicate that Idzik has a plan and means to stick to it. He doesn't seem to be the kind to make panic decisions and I'm sure that if plan A doesn't work he will probably have plans B, C and D ready and waiting.
They'll both be cut right before their bonuses kick in. I know its unlikely, but maybe someone will want to trade for them. There is no downside to waiting until the last possible moment to cut them.
Idzik has come across a guy that is going to build by taking the best player available, its a different approach and it might mean we dont draft the WR, so we cannot just cut Holmes if we dont have the replacement coming. The WR's on this free agent market are really not that appealing and will likely be overpaid. I honestly wouldnt mind a combination of Santonio Holmes and Sydney Rice. Drafting a WR is a great idea to but what if there is a defensive player sitting there that is graded A LOT higher.
Soxx you can't be serious. No chance Holmes is on the team for $8 million. You can get two solid role players who do more for the team for that price than Holmes. If they keep Holmes and Sanchez and maybe even Cromartie then I question what there plan is.
the jets haven't cut santonio yet because you don't want to cut him freeing up cap space and allowing free agents to negotiate for more money based on money available and need. the jets are holding holmes to hold their cards....even though it's widely assumed he's being cut. they may also be talking to him about a re-structure... this is a business not a video game.
