Hey everyone. I've been posting here from time to time for years now, and I was hoping you guys would help a brotha out and let me peddle my wares here for a minute. My company, CustomPlay, just released the initial Beta version of it's free to download video player yesterday. We've been working on it for years now and we're all really proud of it. It's awesome for movie buffs that want to do more than just watch movies. I primarily worked on the Search feature, which lets you search for actors, actions, specific items (cars, weapons, hi-tech spy gadgets, etc.), and yes, boobs, too. There's also a Shopping feature that let's you shop for all kinds of movie-related merchandise. It's impossible to explain everything else the company does here, but those are just two features out of about 14 or so. Search allows the retrieval of items, actions, performers, characters, locations, clips, and scenes. A Search segment is 5-10 sec., a clip is 30-60 sec., and a scene is 2-5 min. Search The Matrix for “Trinity’s Ducati 996″; Spider-Man for “Spider-Man kiss MJ”; Star Wars for “lightsaber duel”; Battleship for “Brooklyn Decker cleavage”; and The Godfather for “bloody horse head”.
Verrry Impressive! You guys are gonna be famous one day if you keep this kind of quality a part of your product. I would only add that a video converter as part of this package would put you over the top and on the front pages of most web searches. Folks like players, but they LOVE converters. Now for a few observations: It doesn't play Mp4's or other file based media. It Doesn't play BluRay It doesn't convert files Now, if this is a beta, I get it. However, you still have some work in front of you if you wanna step up into the same league as say, PowerDVD, WMP, Roxio, Nero, etc. I would suggest you look closely at what the more successful, mainstream players/converters offer and use that as a template. Just my $.02
Thanks for the input, it's very much appreciated! I'll definitely be passing it on. There are lots of things we're working on to make it compatible with other video sources, streaming among them, that much I know. I think a partnership with a streaming content provider is needed, though. I don't know how the feature sets will work with other types of files, etc., (I'm no developer!) and I think there's concern about allowing support of potentially bootleg copies, but, like I said, I'll be happy to pass along any constructive feedback such as this!
