There were a lot of things I did not like about Geno Smith coming out of WVU (fumbles, decision-making and accuracy). He improved the fumbling issue and I think his accuracy got better late in the season, the decision-making is still in ? In that regard, he's prob the 3rd or 4th best prospect. Bridgewater and Carr are more pro-ready while Geno you could argue has the highest upside out of the 2 draft classes.
Geno has a lot of room to grow. Including mechanics, but every nfl analyst said he can make the throws. Boomer Esiason always says wait until year 2 for it all to click for Geno when he gets the reps the weapons and understands the offense. Key will be as it always was can he disect blitzes and read defenses.
If we get the Geno that uses his feet when in trouble than yes! If we get the Geno who forces the ball with his arm then no.
not what Simms said. he isn't saying Geno is better than any of those QB's, or even has more upside based on his play in the NFL, he is saying if he were in this years draft, based solely on his college career against the other college QB's careers, Geno would be the top QB on the board. whether the Texans would trade for him today isn't relevant.
Good because I disagree 100%. Thad Lewis showed more promise for the Bills then Manuel. Bills actually averaged more points with Thad then with Manuel
he'd be below TB, in the same conversation as Bortles and Carr is, and assumed "safer" than Manziel. probably projected to go to the Vikings in a few mocks or something. thats prospect Geno, mind you. I gotta say I'd rather have a sophomore Smith than any of these guys inevitable rookie pains though.
Manuel missed a lot of time which people forget both in camp and during the year. Buffalo won 2 games w/ Lewis at QB, both over Miami. One where Ryan Tannehill threw a pick 6, threw another INt in the EZ and then fumbled to set up the GW FG. the 2nd game Buf shut Miami out. PPG in Manuel starts: 20.9 PPG in Lewis starts: 16 PPG
Dude has had 3 knee injuries in 1 season. he throws for less then 200 yards per game despite better talent around him. Thad Lewis was more impressive. Manuel had 1 good drive against the Panthers and a good outing against the Jets. When I think of Manuel, it's underwhelming.
I didn't read the article, I still don't see how Geno would be the top Qb on the board....he was a 2nd round pick. These Qbs this year were gauging interest from the first couple picks.
Or maybe look at it this way: of the Jets last three 2nd round picks (Vlad, Hill, Geno) which one at this point in time appears less likely to end up a bust?
Good thing they didn't because according to multiple sources, Manuel was higher than Geno on our board.
I wouldnt mind having Manuel either, the thing is, with both these guys is we dont have definite idea of who these guys are exactly. Geno played in an offense devoid of talent. Manuel put up slightly better numbers but was injured and was surrounded by talent. Ill say this though, ill take Geno as a 2nd round pick over Manuel as 1st ANYDAY. Bills have A LOT more riding on Manuel than the Jets having riding on Geno.
I don't have any beef with Manuel, I just believe he wasn't that good to begin with. He was pedestrian at FSU - I still feel the same way about Geno Smith, but his last 4 games taught me something about his ability to rebound. The only reason Manuel prob had a higher grade is because he played in a pro-style offense.
