All offseason long all we hear about is how bad the offense needs playmakers and talent on offense. I 100% agree but we don't HAVE to spend pick #18 on it. We know Watkins and Evans are good as gone, same can be said for Ebron and maybe Lee.

Maybe we trade back but why reach just because we need a pass catcher when there's a great free agency class and this is one of the deepest WR classes of all time.

Grabbing the best defensive player available could be real smart and make this defense from elite against the run to simply elite. Whether it's Anthony Barr sliding and is getting that pass rusher we truly need or Rex takes a page from Rob and grabs a safety like Calvin Pryor to shore up our secondary. I'd rather have the 4th or 5th best defensive player than an Odell Beckham type you can't be sure about when there's a plethora of options in round 2 and free agency.

I know the thought of another first round pick on defense again makes some want to puke but it just might be the best thing for this team.

I completely disagree. Why pay big money for older free agents when you can grab guys that are young in the draft? Winning in free agency does not win you championships. It's been proven time and time again.

This WR free agent market nay be big this year, but there are very few if any solid high talent guys in it. It's a bunch of small names that would just be a waste of money spending on.

Idzik has made it completely clear that we will be building through the draft. I am not for doing what Tanny did and setting us back for years after a couple years of greatness. I want this team to be great year after year and the only way you do that, is get youth in the draft.

this is the year to load up on WRs at the draft. The only way i don't draft a WR in the 1st round is if somehow Ebron falls into our laps.

If Idzik could grab Van Noy in the Second round I would be all for that selection. I think he's got to go offense in the 1st though, especially from where they are selecting.

JayBizness, since no way Johnny Football's dropping to #18 and everyone's focusing on grabbing Ebron and some WR's, here's another "just a thought" idea: what if another offensive player was available at #18 except this time it's a QB who while he's not associated with a West Coast style offense (vs. the spread) is one who's been projected to possibly go in the top 10: Derek Carr. I know he's a strong-armed kid who ran a spread offense vs. the WCO and we are "set" with Geno (well, are we??..), but what if Carr were still sitting there staring you in the face at #18 ......would you consider taking a shot at him? ?

I don't know. I don't dislike Carr but I don't really like him, too many question marks for me, QB's in spread offenses in college have done very little in the NFL.

I don't think Carr is worth taking at 18. If they're going to draft a QB early, it's going to be a guy like that falling to the second, or Manziel gets convicted of a homicide but is cleared while the Jets are on the clock.

I wouldn't be opposed to going defense in the first if that's the way the draft fell. I think I'd rather CJ Mosley than Marquise Lee.

I personally do not see him as a 1st Round prospect, so no. If we do not get Maclin or Sanders in free agency, we have to go WR with that 18 pick.. If we get Maclin or Sanders or both, I wouldn't mind taking Clinton-Dix or Calvin Pryor.

I think it's good to keep an open mind about that pick, but it seems like there will be a very good WR prospect there such as Marquise Lee, Odell Beckham or Brandin Cooks that would really move toward giving this offense a boost and would not be big reaches. What the Jets end up doing in free agency will be key
