Irregardless, I would take Matthews at 49 no matter who else is available. We've seen stranger things happen in the draft. I'll even take a trade-down from 18 to pick up additional picks and grab Matthews at mid 30s.
I would even take evans at the 18 and mathews in the second if he is still there. In one draft we have fixed our wideouts.
Jordan has learned and adapted throughout his career. So long as he gets more physical and continues to improve he'll easily be the best WR drafted in 2014. Very few players like him are willing to minimize or put-off distractions until the offseason. He'll be grateful to play for any team but going to the Jets could be a game-changer: an opportunity to fill his team's greatest need; Jmatt may not be a big fan of attention but he loves a challenge.
Would love to see this guy in green and white. He maybe the fifth otion as far as recieving goes if Watkins, Evans, Lee, and Ebron are off the board. All time leader in SEC HISTORY in receptions and recieving yards. Ran well for his size (6-3), 4.43, and had the top bench press among wide outs with 21. Really made a strong case to move up draft boards with his combine performance. Personally I like him as an option behind the elite prospects and if we don't land one of the top guys I thnk he is a good option. Ideally I would like to trade back a few spots and pick him up but I don't know if that is possible. Do you think he is worthy of the 18th overall pick?

I would love to grab Matthews if we could trade down, but it probably won't happen since draft day trades are hard to come by. It's a shame Ebron won't be there at 18 though.
Brandin Cooks weighed in at 5-10 and 189 pounds. Is this guy physical enough to win on the outside? Kerley is our slot receiver. I wish we can trade down and grab Jordan Matthews.
Clicked this thread for the first time and OP has a raging hard on for Matthews, with a Mike Evans avatar. Lolz.
I'm interested in how he beats press coverage at the next level. I want a wide receiver that can line up and win those type of 1 on 1 battles.
I'll be honest. I was down on Matthews for awhile but after the combine I decided to look at this kid a lot. I was wrong. Reading about the kid and the strong fire based passion he has for this game, the technique he has is amazing coming out of college, he consistently beats press coverage, leads SEC ALL TIME in several categories, runs fast for a big WR, catches everything thrown his way. Why is he not a sure fire 1st rounder? After all the review I've down the past two days, he is under rated as a receiver by leaps and bounds in my eyes. It's very surprising to me.
He may have surpassed both Benjamin & Lee as the #3 WR in the draft. You just cant deny the production & test results to back it up.
Agreed. Benjamin is huge but looked really clumsy in on field drills with suspect hands. Lee didn't test well and his injury concerns have got to be a red flag. Matthews is a much safer pick IMO.
He's not an explosive receiver - he won't fly past a defender vertically. The fundamentals, work ethic, hands, route running that is all there. I like him over Benjamin, Lee, and Cooks easily.
Disagree about Benjamin.Thought he was alot more polished than anticipated.Good hands & fantastic feet to go along with that freakish size.He only falls cause the other elite bigger WRs were faster & were top performers
I don't know about that. I think prior to last year he didn't go down the field as much, agreed, but last year he was stretching the field a lot and did very well. He showed he is able to be a deep threat as well. The problem I seen with Vbilt is that their line just wasn't up to the task for those long throws down the field, they gave up a lot of sacks last year.
Compared to Cooks and Watkins, I do not believe Matthews is in the same class explosiveness wise. I think he can go vertical when the play-call is right - and for whatever explosion he lacks, his route running skills would allow him to win on a daily basis. Short and intermediate routes, I think Jordan Matthews is straight money - and we need a productive, reliable receiver that not only is polished, but still has some upside. Especially in a WCO. He's def got the best hands in my opinion of any wide out. Matthews will go across the middle and I believe he knows every route in the route tree (Mike Evans does not)
