Hey Everyone, This is my first attempt at a complete mock offseason. Cuts: QB: Mark Sanchez WR: Santonio Holmes CB: Antonio Cromartie Resign: RT: Austin Howard - Multi-year deal G: Willie Colon - 1 year deal CB: Antonio Cromartie - 2 year deal DL: Leger Douzable - 1-2 year deal K: Nick Folk - Multi-year deal CB: Darrin Walls - No more than 2 years. (Depth signing) OLB: Calvin Pace - 1 year deal (I think he takes it to stay with the Jets) Priority Free Agent Signings: QB: Matt Flynn - 2 year deal (Familiar w/ the West Coast Offense) or Chad Henne WR: Emmanuel Sanders - 3 year deal (Adds much needed speed to our offense & won't command a lot of money) WR: Riley Cooper - 3 year deal (Depth signing: Can compete w/ David Nelson) TE: Garret Graham - 3 year deal S: T.J Ward - 4 year deal Draft: I used the fanspeak website & added a conditional 4th and two 6th's. 1 C.J Mosley ILB 2 Dvante Adams WR 3a Troy Niklas TE 3b Joel Bitonio OT 4 Keith McGill CB 4c Josh Huff WR 5 Demarcus Lawrence DE/OLB 6 Antonio Andrews RB 6c Walt Aikens CB 6c Ryan Carrethers DT 7 Dri Archer RB/SPECIAL The Mosley pick is interesting, as it gives us flexibility with Harris. We could trade him during the draft if a player we like falls, trade him during the season, or keep him and have a solid lb crew.
Niklas has been being talked about as the 2nd best TE, depending on his combine I'm not sure he'll be there in the 3rd. And Sanders is the type of guy that I think is going to wind up getting overpaid for what he does on his next team.
I like your cuts, most of your re-signings, but am not wild about your FA signings. Please tell me you're kidding about Matt Flynn. He's awful. He has no arm and couldn't make it in Oakland for cripes' sake. I like Sanders, and Cooper's not bad, but there are much better options than Graham at TE, even though he's not a bad option. He just wouldn't be my first choice. I'd love to add Ward, but doubt he will leave Cleveland. I like your draft pretty much, but why in the world would you waste a pick on a DT? Are you thinkings move him to DE? We certainly don't need another DT.
By whom? I sure haven't seen that anywhere. He has one season of play as a starter and is fairly new to the position. I'd take him in the 3rd, but would have little interest in the 2nd round.
Rotoworld has some articles on him that I'm too lazy to find. They also did a TE Metrics article and he not only excels at inline blocking but stretching the field as well.
Matt Flynn is a system QB, and in the right system he is decent. With MM I think he can be a quality backup. What QB has made it in Oakland in the last decade? I think Graham may be the best available for us. I like Scott Chandler, but think Buffalo will resign him. Same for Olsen. I think Pitta gets tagged. I don't see a problem with taking an interior lineman with a conditional 6th. He was the bpa, and I'm not sure how much longer Ellis will be on this team. Carrethers is a good run stopper, we can put him on the practice squad to develop.
I wasn't criticizing your plan or saying that it was bad. We just have different ideals or ideas of what/who we think would help the Jets more. Yes, I know that Flynn is a WCO system QB, it's just that aside from one game with GB, he's never looked good in the rest of his NFL career. I'd much rather have Schaub, Shaun Hill, the ex-Miami QB or several others over Flynn. Graham does seem to be a player on the rise and wouldn't be a bad signing. You could be right about both Chandler and Pitta not being available, but even though Graham is younger and probably a better receiver than Pettigrew, I'd still prefer Pettigrew if for no other reason than I know more about him. I know he has prototypical size and is a good blocker. Supposedly his hands are suspect, but that can be worked on, and I'm not even sure that is accurate looking at how many receptions he has had in his career. Is Graham a good blocker? I know he's basically the same size as Ebron, maybe smaller. Pettigrew has 2 inches and around 25 pounds on Graham and is only one year older. He'll be more expensive for sure, but he's had seasons of 30, 71, 83, 59 and 41 receptions. Graham has had seasons of 0, 1, 28, 49 receptions. There's not a "problem" per se with taking Carrethers in the 6th round. It's just that the Jets have spent so many picks on the DL in the last few years, and they have a lot of holes. I can understand going with the player you think might be the bpa at that point, but he may not be there or rated that highly by the Jets. Nothing against Carrethers as I don't really know anything about him. That's why I asked if he might be a guy to convert to DE as they do need DE depth. I hope that they have someone else higher rated at that point. They need to fill additional holes. They could find a solid backup and maybe even a starter with that pick, which would be inifinitely better than a PS player that some other team could steal anyway. I'd love getting Dri Archer in the 7th and like the rest of your picks.
