This sounds like a bit of a long shot, but...
Is there anyone else that thinks the Jets should try to trade the Dolphins for Dion Jordan? I was just reading an article talking about how their personnel staff had no idea Olivier Vernon would progress the way he did, leaving Dion baisically out of the mix at OLB/DE with cam wake there aswell. I think if we could restructure Cro and send him with a couple picks the dolphins might be interested in having Cro for less than what the franchise tag would be for Grimes, plus hes younger and going back to florida area(went to FSU). That would be great to get another young guy at OLB IMO. Young replacement we could get for Cro could be Verner/ Vontae Davis/ Sam Shields/ Walter Thurmond.

Another trade option could be David Harris as the ILB the dolphins signed last offseason have performed awfully and they could be in the market for some established talent. Young replacement could be Donald Butler or draft prospect like Yawin Smallwood.

Longshot option would be Brick... for obvious reasons that the dolphins O-line is putrid. And we could sign someone like Eugene Monroe who is significantly younger.

All in all I think either one would be nice if the dolphins were to be interested(maybe all 3) because it seems like they are turning into more of a win now team with their cap splurging last offseason so three established veteran starters for a young player who has yet to see the field might pique their interest. I could be wrong...

Also read that Jermaine Gresham could be cut this offseason now that the bengals have eifert... any interest in picking him up?

Tom Gamble a GM candidate for the Jets at one point and the Dolphins at one point was quoted as saying he didnt want a job there, but if he could do one thing he would switch the D to a 3-4 scheme as he thinks that Dion Jordan is a 3-4 stud...(Jets D scheme)

Walter Thurmond is another player that interests me in FA.

What ever happened with Justin Blackmon? He was suspended for the remainder of 2013 for failing multiple drug tests. Did the Jags cut him yet? If not, I could very easily see him cut when FA starts. The Jets need to take advantage. It would be nice to get the #1 WR prospect from the 2012 draft. If rehab really helps him, he could be good to go for the 2014 season and his value will be way down. We could give him a cheap, 'prove your worth without getting suspended' deal. If the Jags don't cut him, we could offer a conditional 5th/6th for him. Imagine Blackmon-Kerley-Sanders-first rounder as our starting WR unit. I really like the sound of that one. Stretching the field will be their specialty. Part of me still thinks Holmes will be on the roster, as he's already said he'd take a pay cut to stay. Sanders-Holmes-Kerley-Blackmon could potentially be god-like. Then we could draft a TE early, or even draft another WR to develop for the future in case Hill never comes around.

Dang. Well hopefully that's like the Tanny kiss of death. I'm sure he'd be tempted by an offer, especially considering what could happen if he fails another drug test.

Hakeem Nicks signed with CAA and "Roc Nation" or whatever the hell that stupid agency is that Geno uses. That's a unique tie to the Jets now. But also a tie back to the Giants (Cruz). I REALLY don't want Nicks here.

anybody hear about demarcus ware possibly being a cap cut? i wouldnt mind bringing him in. i think he still has alot left in the tank. at least another good 3-4 years. He only didnt have a good season last year because of the transition from 3-4 to 4-3 in Dallas. And he had some nagging injuries that should be gone. With our young double-team demanding d-line i think he can have a another 15-20 sack season. especially with some rex blitz packages. He could also school coples. what ya think?

He's obviously on the downside of his career but I agree he could be extremely effective in this defense. He racked up big sack numbers at 3-4 OLB with Rob Ryan a 2-3 years ago.

The price tag could be an issue.

This is what i would love to see happen in free agency...

WR Emmanuel Sanders: Philly probably keeps Maclin, I'm not sold on Decker in this system. Sanders has pretty good hands and is super fast, can also help in KR/PR.

FS Jarius Byrd: If Rex gets this... aw man... that defense is gonna be a serious problem for opposing offenses. This is our home run hit.

TE Scott Chandler: Big bully. We need that. Somebody like scott will attract safeties AND LB's (dude is like the biggest TE in the league at 6'7) , let our NEW WR's (Sanders and Lee/Evans) and kerley have a chance at some one on ones. Could also be an affective blocker.

G Jon Asamoah: I dont wanna see anymore Brian Winters.

CB Antonio Cromartie: Cut em, bring em back cheaper, and pray he returns to 2012 form.

QB Chad Henne: I like this guy (wouldn't admit it til after he left miami of course). Seen him come in for Lame Gabbert and have some pretty good games.. he knows his role.

I agree that Philly is likely to keep Maclin, especially since he has said he wants to stay there, so he isn't necessarily looking for a big payday regardless of where it is. I'd definitely like to add Sanders.

Byrd would definitely be a big addition to the back end of our D, but I just can't see Idzik going there.

IMO Chandler would be a good signing if he can block. Buffalo hasn't had a good QB in years, which have affected Chandler's stats. He'd definitely be an upgrade over what we have and a huge red zone target. The blocking is key for me, however. If he can't block that well, I'd rather sign Pitta or Pettigrew.

I would love for the Jets to sign Asamoah and really hope they will, but not for the reason you list. To give up on Winters after one season would be dumb. With an offseason in the weight room and a year's experience, he should be a lot better in 2014. If nothing else, the Jets could potentially move him to RG where he would be used more as a run blocker perhaps and less as a pass blocker.

I have mixed feelings about Cro. If the Jets think he has a chance of returning to his 2012 form, then I think they should bring him back. If not, I definitely wouldn't want them to bring him back. The thing is, even if he can return to that level of play, he could do it for what, maybe 1-2 more seasons? Conversely, a young guy like Alterraun Verner could potentially help the team for another 5-7 years. I believe that Verner is a better fit and a better tackler than Cro.

I'd be ok with Henne, but not very excited. I'd prefer Josh McCown, but he probably isn't coming here even if the Jets want him. I was convinced in the other thread and would also prefer Schaub over Henne IF the Jets don't have to trade for him (unless they can trade Sanchez straight up).

Bills would be crazy to let Byrd hit FA but they are pretty incompetent so who knows. I think the only plausible scenario where it happens is they decide not to give him a franchise tag fearing he'll sit out 10 games this year with a bogus injury instead of 5 like he did last year. Then they're not able to come to a long term agreement in time and he hits FA. Still seems like a longshot though.

Ward is probably another franchise tag candidate if it comes in around only $8 mil but he seems a little more likely to hit FA just because he isn't as good as Byrd. If either of them make it through I think they should obviously be priority #1, instantly shoring up the 2nd weakest unit on the team and taking pressure off of transitional years at CB in one move. Asamoah would also be a big score and there are a lot of middling options at WR, probably one of them should be added. If neither of the safeties or Asamoah are available maybe add OLB like Worilds/Orakpo/Ware (if cut) and spend more on a WR. Leaning towards getting one of the big 3 TEs in the draft with the 1st pick, (or trading up the 2nd pick) so that would leave a lot of flexibility for FA options depending on who is available.

Nicks is my dream FA signing along with McCluster.
Draft the TE in the 1st and receiver in the 2nd.

Would like to see us sign a guard or two...Jon Asamoah would be nice and maybe we could move Winters over to right guard. Signing Willie Colon would be good also but I'm not sure he's a starter as he gave up a lot of penalties last year

Depends on the price IMO. He's a guy that can't stay healthy and has character issues. I feel like we are finally getting rid of one of those kinda guys in Holmes. If he comes on the cheap? Sure. But if he's looking for #1 WR money? F off.

That's just it, I can't see how he can command that big of a contract that's not loaded with incentives?
I realize he's got issues staying healthy and other things but I think he can be had for less then his potential would dictate under normal circumstances.
Maybe a one year incentive laden deal?

If Sidney Rice gets released, I would want the Jets to take a look. Injuries have really slowed his career, but he could be a great pickup.

I understand where you're coming from, but after having Holmes for the last several years and his not being able to stay healthy, Hill unable to stay healthy, and then the idea of maybe bringing in even Maclin is starting to lose some appeal to me, so I would have even more concerns with Rice. The Jets' offense needs consistency. In order to achieve that, Geno needs to be able to practice with the same receivers every day in practice and then have them available for games. While the Jets are due to get lucky on one of those kinds of guys, I just hope the Jets scouting and medical staffs do their jobs well. If we sign a FA WR he'd better stay healthy all year.
