Have you seen the article and graphic showing what they think of our starters? Take a look.

    Roster Notes

    - Wide receiver is a massive area of need for the Jets, with Santonio Holmes having been a big disappointment in recent years. Jeremy Kerley is a solid receiver, and a good option out of the slot, but Stephen Hill has yet to show anything to make anyone believe he can fulfill his potential.

    - With Jeff Cumberland and Kellen Winslow set to become a free agents, it leaves largely untested Zach Sudfeld as the starting tight end as things stand. With just 146 snaps last year it’s hard to judge, but he certainly didn’t do anything to make you confident that he can be a big contributor.

    - The same can be said for the right side of the offensive line, though they have reportedly already reached out to right tackle Austin Howard with a view to bringing him back. That still leaves them short a right guard and, while Willie Colon was not a world beater, he certainly wasn’t terrible either, so they may look to bring him back too.

-You’d be hard pressed to find a better three-man front in football. Damon Harrison is very good against the run at nose tackle, while Sheldon Richardson and Muhammad Wilkerson are both not far away from being in that elite bracket at defensive end.

    - Linebacker is another area of need, with three projected starters listed as below average. Neither Coples or Garrett McIntyre are going to put much fear into opposing offensive tackles as pass rushers at this stage in their careers.

    2014 Cap Situation

With $20 million in projected cap space, the Jets will be confident that they can make the necessary moves to compete in 2013. It’s enough to allow then to re-sign their own free agents, sign their draft picks and attack the free agent market if they see fit.

    Potential Casualties

In releasing Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes the Jets would free up some significant extra cap room. While their cuts would result in some dead money, they would save roughly $16.6 million by letting both of them go. David Harris would free up an additional $5 million, but he is the best of a bad bunch at linebacker so they might not be so willing to send him off. Cutting Antonio Cromartie would free up $9.5 million but, as the team’s best defensive back, this seems like a move that would be counterproductive.

    Opportunities from the Roster

Mike Goodson forced three missed tackles from seven carries in limited duty last year, after forcing eight from 35 during his season in Oakland. Provided he can get on the field and stay out of trouble for the Jets in 2014, he could add some excitement to an offense that badly needs it. Leger Douzable was a solid part of the defensive line rotation last year and, while it was only preseason, had a monster performance against the New York Giants in August. Many will point to the fact that Smith was our second-worst graded quarterback last year, but his final four games of the year were his best, and there will be confidence that he can step up in 2014 and beyond.

I've learned to just not give a shit about these things. No matter what team is fielded, there will always be an article like this one to completely shit on us.

Four high quality starters and an adequate role player at QB? Jeez you think we won 4 games instead of 8 last year.

I think it is a fair observation. Thank goodness for Synergy.

8-8 with a -97 point differential. That's what happens when your talent is concentrated in the center of the field and near the football. Took a lot of luck also but it sure didn't hurt that the Jets had 4 high-quality players lining up in the trenches. The only real arguments I'd have with their evaluations is at CB. I think Cro is on the downside and Milliner is likely to rise. Turns into same difference though if you just subtract some from Cro and give it to Milliner.

Jets are a half dozen starters away from being serious contenders at this point.

I think this is probably accurate. This is based on how they performed last year and took away any FA we have leaving so Pace, Howard, Willie aren't on there and their backups are slotted in instead.

I'm nitpicking, but I think Wilkerson could jump into Elite starter, but high quality works. I would say this is accurate though. You have 5 rookies on there in Geno, Dee, Sheldon, Winters, and Tommy with only Sheldon grading out great. If we get improvement from the other rookies, it goes a long way to helping us down the road and limiting what we need in the future

Who cares about this, our roster is gonna be completley diffrent in a few months. Our current roster isn't very special we know that already,it doesn't take Pro Football Focus posting an article to figure that out

i dont disagree too much with their assessment. if anything i think it shows just how hard the team fought this season just to get to 8-8. its clear the jets need help at wr and the ol needs pieces as well.

on defense we need a safety and an olb. possibly a corner too. team still has lots of holes. time for idzik to put up his end of the bargain

I somewhat agree, but then I also think that this is extremely flawed. I don't see how Bohanon is rated so low when he was amazing last year in the FB role. Doesn't make much sense.

can't complain about this... this is why we were ranked 32nd last year. lol . We are a better team in the game than we are on paper... sometimes.

I think it is basically accurate, but with regards to the players who were rookies this past season, I think it depends on whether they are rating them based solely on that and where they expect them to be this season, or if they are saying that they don't think those players have much potential at all. If it's the former, then I can agree. If it's the latter, then I think they're off base and too harsh.

Yeah, but I think that that's kinda the point of this -- to take a headcount on talent/needs as we embark upon the crucial part of the Offseason.

2-3 via Free Agency, 2-3 via the Draft, 1 surprise already on the roster who rises to the top (maybe Milliner).

This doesn't seem that far fetched for any team nowadays. If this can happen AND if the Qb actually "gets it," then I think we have a legit shot.

Jeez...If this was the case, Rex should have won Coach of the Year for going 8-8.

On offense I'd make Kerley solid light green, Holmes solid orange, Ivory solid dark green, Brick solid light green, Hill orange border at best.

On defense Cro solid light green, (maybe yellow border,) Wilson solid yellow, Coples light green with dark green border, Davis yellow with light green border, Allen yellow border.

Averages out overall, but seems to me that a few young players were underrated and a few older players were overrated based on prior performance that probably won't return. Hard to think of 5 DEs that were better than Wilkerson especially when you factor his developmental upside for next year, putting him in green sums up the divergences pretty well.

This assessment is far too high. Apparently they didn't bother to check with the experts here on TGG or they would have known the only Crayola Crayon the needed was injun red.
