Every gay man or woman who has died at the hands of homophobes, every teenager who committed suicide rather than face a world that didn't accept them for who they were may disagree.

Respectfully disagree about the "top selling" jersey.....and btw what the hell did you mean by "top?!" ;-)

Amen. If it came down to a Rosie O'Donnell and a bowling ball and if my life were on the line, I could always eat a bowling ball.

And besides, there apparently weren't any 'voyeur' issues at Missouri in front of them, thar' college boys...

    lmao

+100 mute. Bad as it might've been, I wouldn't rank Stonewall Cafe 'down there' with Selma, AL.

dmw, you gotta get over this and you might as well start trying now. "They" are not going away and there's no reason that they have to live hidden like slugs under a rock or moles in the ground.

"Ground & pound" dmw, get used to it. ; )

perhaps you should avoid your stereotypes and cliches and deal with the reality of the situation. there has been nothing but positive support for him from all parties -- the media, the league and the players association.

if you had had a lobotomy that would excuse your ignorance. otherwise, nothing you posted reflects the reality of the situation.

how about you dispute what I said with facts and examples showing players voicing opposition to his sexual preference. otherwise you are simply taking past preferences, not current preferences.

here are just a few to dispute your assertion of the current environment he has come out to:

will there be some people who are opposed to him? of course. there are also likely racist players as well, but that doesn't mean it takes courage to be of that hated race because of a few people.

this was a carefully crafted announcement with interviews and media support already lined up. and it was already known that it would be presented favorably by the media, and as such the league, which cares about its public perception, would also fully support him.

this isn't the 1980's, it is 2014. please join us in body as well as attitudes. most people don't give a shit, and he knew it.

and Riley Cooper said nigger. I guess that means NFL locker rooms aren't ready for black players, too.

try reading my post, I clearly address that there will be some people opposed, that is nothing compared to the size of the voice of the entities supporting him.

but if you think some players will will have a greater impact on the environment than the media and the league openly promoting and supporting him, which he knew before making the announcement, than you are only continuing to support my accusation that you pay attention to reality.

I have advocated drafting this young man from the start even before he made this announcement. This announcement doesn't change my opinion of him as this doesn't affect me or my family. I could careless who he loves or doesn't love all I care about is can the kid play football. To me if he is there in the 4th round it is a no brainer, we should take him.

Sheldon Richardson saying he's proud of him and lived with him when they were at Mizzo together.

    Hopefully this breaks the barrier

Not surprising, you pretty much just described the Patriots entire roster.

I think the Jets answer enough stupid questions already. I don't want the Jets to draft him only for guys like Richardson, Coples and Wilkerson getting asked "So hows your gay teammate? What's it like playing with a gay player?" You know the idiot reporters will keep bringing up this non-issue. I only say non-issue because being gay has nothing to do with the productivity on the field. I just don't want our younger players being distracted with stupid ass questions by the media ala 2012 and Tebow.

Sheldon played with him in college, it does make some difference, but very little in regards to the media circus that will come.

If the 2013 draft was a do-over, and Sheldon Richardson came out of the closet the day before, would he still be taken #1 overall? Hopefully NOT. Hopefully he'd fall to the Jets again.

If he can contribute I dont have a problem with him on the team. That being said, I think another team drafts him.

Well here is Sheldon's take.....extremely supportive and I found this awesome

"If guys [in the NFL] can't get past that, then, I mean, it's just crazy. You wanted a football player, you got the football player. I promise you his sexuality has nothing to do with him playing on the football field. He is a completely different person [on the field]. He puts this face on, no smiles, serious business. He's a killer."

Good that he's revealed his sexual orientation. Nice he's got some skills.
Most of the NFL collective has stated thier "support" of his lifestyle.
    Knowing what the "locker-room" behaviour/mindset is, I ask the following;

    Question(s);

A)-How would that NFL team treat/react to him if he was a feather-boa wearing, pink-colored clothed, effeminate teammate?
B)-What if said gay teammate shows admiration/respect/friendship/etc to a straight teammate, would straight teammate reciprocate or back away for being "branded"?
C)-Road games translates to 2 in a room; showering (Jackie Robinson would wait to every-1's show'rd b-4 going in until PeeWee let him know "its all good"!
    D)-Media circus.

Good for Sam to come out but like Boomer E stated; "This aint a locker room of members of MENSA. They're's gonna be attitudes....."

He'll end up playing somewhere and I'd love to see every guy on the team play dumb every time they get asked one of those dumb questions.

    "Gay? Yeah, he's a happy guy." 'He's a what?" "No, he's a linebacker."

It wouldn't take long for those answers to stop the questions.

No, it is win-win, absolutely no downside for him. I read it here, must be true.
    Absolutely everyone supports him.
