Hill has shown flashes. But he has not been consistent and has not stayed healthy. He should definitely continue to be on the team into training camp. If he hasn't improved and you have better options on the roster then you dump him. You don't dump him now when we don't know what our depth chart is going to look like.
Would like to grab these two and a tight end like Ebron or ASJ in the first two rounds, probably one of them and a safety like Clinton Dix or Pryor in the first two rounds
Remember when Braylon couldn't catch? the he doesn't drop a ball in 2010. Hill may never develop, he may never be good but you don't give up on young talent for no reason. Hands can be worked on.
Agree that he shouldn't be cut early in the process or immediately after other WRs are acquired, but he should have to earn his roster spot during TC and preseason. Another guy I like is is Doug Baldwin of Seattle. He may be more of a slot WR and is an RFA, but I would at least look into him if I were in the Jets FO
If Hill showed any signs of development in any phase of the game I would still have some expectations for him. I don't anymore and at this point he should be looked at as a bubble player on the roster and needs to fight for his spot. He gets to come to camp and if he's beaten out then he should be cut. He's off "scholarship" as far as I'm concerned.
At least the Jets appear to be aware of where they need to improve. Now we have to wait and see if Idzik can pull off his plan.
I am not comparing them just pointing out that b/c a guy struggles w/ their hands doesn't mean they always will. That is something that can be worked on, you know Jerry Rice couldn't catch a thing as a rookie, right? and he has probably the best hands ever(I am not comparing him to Rice, again just an example that good hands can be worked on).
The problem with Hill isn't really his hands. He got better with his hands as the season went on. The problem is all of his measurables are literally irrelevant. He is really tall, fast, and can jump really high. The weakest part of his game, however, is high pointing a ball and going up to make a catch. That makes him irrelevant as a deep threat. If he can't win 1 on 1 battles for the football, how can he be a deep threat? The ball needs to be a perfectly thrown spiral into his breadbasket over the shoulder for him to catch the ball. If we need to do that, might as well have Usain Bolt as our WR.
Uhhhh, hope this isn't true. I want them to pursue Tate if it's realistic. I'd probably take whichever one of these two comes cheaper.
There's one thing that's saving him and that it's only gonna be his 3rd year and add to the fact that he's gonna be 24. It makes it hard to give up on a guy like that so soon. I think 3 years is enough time for a guy. If he stinks in 2014 you get rid of him next offseason.
I would love both. We need playmakers on offense and both of these guys are just that. Take another receiver in the draft with a TE and suddenly our offense looks damn good on paper.
Yea, I noticed that too. He was better catching with his hands than his rookie year, but a lot of plays he would jump up and try to catch with his chest. If he just gains the instincts to reach up and pull it in, that would make a huge difference.
Yes, during the offseason makes sense, right now? Not at all. If he looks like he can play up to his potential we would keep him, but I can easily foresee him being gone late in camp if some young guys out play him.
While I'm delighted to hear this, if accurate, Mehta's "sources" should keep their effing mouths shut and not make it more difficult for the Jets to sign these two. If they were Jets players or staff, I hope they will soon be ex-Jets.
You hope that he gets "it" after 3 years in the league. You had guys like Roddy White that struggled for a few years before getting "it". You hope Hill does the same. If not you cut your losses. Right now if we get two receivers in free agency and another in the draft. Hill would be the 4th receiver at best. Maclin Sanders Kerley Nelson Watkins/Lee/Evans Hill
Dude, if you think the Jets are going to add 4-5 new WRs this coming season, you're delusional, and if you think they're gonna make a serious "run" in 2014, you're again delusional. Even with cap space and 12 draft picks, they have too many other needs to add that many new WRs. They have glaring holes at FS, TE, OLB, perhaps CB, their OL needs upgrading, they need better depth at all the LB positions and RB. It will take them 2, maybe 3 seasons to completely overhaul their WR corps. In the meantime, Nelson is more than serviceable as a #4 or #5 WR. How many teams do you know that have a stud as their #4 or #5 WR? That's what I thought. None. In terms of "making a run," the Jets could have as much as a 40-50% roster turnover. That isn't an ingredient for making a run in year one. It will take time for the new players to gel and develop chemistry, and that's if all of them can make real contributions, and aren't just a one or two-year stop gap. We could see Colon and Cromartie back as a one-year stop gaps, as well as Reed, Harris and the vet QB they sign (if they do indeed sign one). The Jets are rebuilding and a team in transition. While they should show progress and have a better record in 2014, and possibly even make the playoffs, I wouldn't expect their making any serious noise. If so, you're just gonna wind up disappointed.
