Right and Orton is smarter than Sanchez too. Now answer the question what makes Sanchez better than Orton?
The difference is those Bears team made a SB w/ Rex Grossman, the jets couldn't make the playoffs w/ Brett Favre and Sanchez played a million times better than Grossman ever did in postseason.
Orton is brilliant, how come no team has ever made him a permanent starter w/ all his talent and smarts?
afc divisional round playoff CHAMPION!!!!!!! 2 2 2 2 time!!!! think of how silly that sounds. its such an amazing high water mark for sancho. they should erect a statue for him in the bottom of the urinals.
Mark's "Career Arc" is basically already better then Smiths, and is 2 years younger; But here you go They both came out as top QB prospects with limited starting experience that got bounced around OC's and WRs in their first few years. They both showed an propensity to not take care of the football both in the air and on the ground. I'm not saying it's 100% certain that Mark will bounce back like Alex did. I'm just trying to show people on this board that there are worse QB's then Mark that have turned their careers around without having to "change scenery", I'm sure Smith had to deal with just as many boo's when they trotted him out there in 2009, And then he continued to play at a probowl level for the next 3 years.
similar talent in '09 w/ easier sched, weaker AFC, no Brady to deal with and we couldn't make the playoffs w/ a HOF QB. Chi made the SB b/c in the title game their D played well. Only allowed 14 pts. If Our D did that we would have made 2 SBs
Did we all forget that his OCs where Shotty and Sparano? Lets not forget WFH that almost ended Sanchez's career. The argument if he is better than Orton or not is meaningless to if he should stay on the Jets. The argument if he is better than Geno is meaningless. The argument is does it make sense for the Jets to keep him or bring in a FA to compete with Geno? As of right now there is no FA I would want over Sanchez. You haters are just scared in that he maybe better than Geno.
I get your point. But look at this. In the last 15 years. There are only 3 QB's that were drafted in the first round that stunk out the gate before turning their careers around. Eli, Alex and Stafford. Let's look at other first round QB's. David Carr Joey Harrington Byron Leftwich Kyle Boller Rex Grossman JP Losman Jason Campbell Matt Leinart Jamarcus Russell Brady Quinn Tim Tebow In the last 15 years only 3 QB's turned it around after poor starts. The rest of the guys are either out of the league or backups. So based on these odds Sanchez career arc will be that of a backup.
But Mark didn't stink out the gate, he was good the first 3 years. he stunk one year where no QB would have succeeded.
Yes he stunk in 09. You're in the minority that thinks he was "good for a rookie". So let's agree to disagree.
I couldn't care less if I am in the minority. He was good for a rookie and very good in postseason. You just look at #s and see 20 INTs, I realize they came in bunches that 15 of them came in 4 games.
Jet's top 10 defenses - pts and yds - since the merger: 1981 (Todd to the Divisional Round) 1982 (Todd to the AFC Championship) 1985 (O'Brien to the Divisional Round) 1993 (Esiason - no playoffs) 1998 (Vinny to the AFC Championship) 2004 (Chad to the Divisional Round) 2009 (Sanchez to the AFC Championship) 2010 (Sanchez to the AFC Championship) The Jets have only missed the playoffs once with a top 10 defense. Sanchez got lucky. He arrived on a team that had an excellent defense and a strong running game. Then circumstances allowed them to make the playoffs in 2009 despite some really terrible outings on his part that threw away games the Jets should have won.
and where are all the title game apps? Interesting how you left off all the top Ds of the pre merger years where a HOFer couldn't lead us to the playoffs outside of 2 years. Rankings don't tell the whole story though. do they mention all the late leads the 2009 and 2010 D's blew? Yep, he got lucky he went to a team that couldn't make the playoffs the year before w/ Brett Favre, no Brady and an easier sched and had pressure to win from day 1. Pure luck! The D blew more games in 2009 than the QB(or at least as many)
It's just so hard to debate with you because you rely on a set of facts that only you can see. It makes it a waste of time to interact with you. That's a shame.
You just set yourself up. How many playoff games has Orton played in? How many meaningful games has Orton won in his career? If we want to use team accomplishments. If you can win with Orton, how come Orton went 3-10 with the Broncos in 2010, then proceeded to go with 3-5 in 2011 only for Tebow to take over the team and do the bare minimum to get them into the playoffs? Explain that one, the team was literally better with Tebow at the helm doing absolutely the minimum, then Orton out there throwing the football - your savior at QB.
