I've always though of Keller as strictly a receiving TE. Ebron is a better blocker than you think, much better than Keller, but he still can improve in that area. Ebron is going to be a match-up nightmare for opposing defenses. There hasn't been a better physically gifted TE since Vernon Davis. I understand that a lot of people believe a TE isn't a priority position to draft in Rd1, usually I agree with that theory, but there are exceptions with certain players and I believe Ebron is one. I'm not 100% sold on Ebron depending who is available at #18, but it looks like a defensive player that falls would trump Ebron. Right now, I think the top 20 is still unsettled and it will change before May, it always happens.
My point is dont pass a on a 1st Round Pass Rusher for a 2nd Round Wide Receiver because of need Dont pick a one dimensional Tight End over a Safety because you need help on offense
I also hold Ebron in high regard. He's a player who I can see causing fits for opposing DB's. His route running is exceptional and his athleticism for his size screams Graham and Gronkowski. No doubt I would take him at 18, I just don't think he'll be available.
It really sucks (although it doesn't because we eliminated MIA from a playoff spot) that we won that last game. We'd be picking 12 and Ebron would be a much more realistic option.
Could have drafted a CB late in the draft last season, or even better paid Brent Grimes like 3M to play CB. Patterson is one hell of a play-maker - I thought he was too raw for him to do anything early on, but man he made an impact for the Vikings.
You're wrong, Ebron can block, he's not a Dustin Keller. If you think Ebron isn't worth a 1st round selection, I don't know what to tell you, it's clear you haven't evaluated his talent. Amaro needs a lot more work blocking than Ebron.
Ebron is a good blocker, he needs to get stronger, but he's not a liability. Ebron's game is based on athleticism, one of the most athletic TEs in recent memory. Amaro is basicly a WR in a TEs body, he's needs a lot of work.
LOL give me a break I didn't say he was Keller and I didn't say Amaro was better but Ebron is not a good blocker, sure he can improve in that aspect but how many guys do
He's much smaller than Graham and Gronk; he's more like a young Kellen Winslow pre-injuries and accidents.
The question becomes do you feel he can improve his blocking to the point a #1 should especially in an offense where Rex wants pound the rock
Excellent question. That, in a nutshell, is part of my concern with Ebron. He's a good blocker, but not a great blocker imo. He's also a big undersized, so may always struggle with that to some extent. The Jets' offense has been made more predictable by the fact that they either had blocking or receiving TEs, but none that excelled at both. Since Rex likes to run the ball, imo whoever our TEs are have to be excellent blockers. We can maybe afford one TE who is basically a WR, but not 2 or 3. We already have Cumby. I think our starter and other backup both need to be excellent blockers. If need be, I'd rather they primarily be blockers than receivers, as long as they can catch and function as a safety valve for Geno. If the Jets decided to go with Ebron and not re-sign Cumby, fine, but I hope they get two more TEs who have the prototypical size and are blockers first and receivers second.
It depends, I don't think Ebron is a liability in blocking, he can improve. I don't use absolutes and say he can't block, because that isn't true. Ebron's talent is getting downfield making plays. The Jets need weapons and Ebron would be Geno's best friend. Cumberland isn't a great blocker, he was a WR in College.
