No way. Even at that ridiculous number, Brad Richards' contract was worse. Don't forget Theo Fleury.

if they got a 6th round in return, then yea, Id agree with you. But they'll get a lot more than that. So its either get a decent player for cally or let him walk for nothing. Since cally has contributed exactly nothing for over a month now, we wouldn't be hurting our chances this year at all.
Is there anything about him that resembles a captain or a leader on this team right now?

I didn't say that Girardi is the Ranger's top defenseman. He is a lot better than Stralman though. You are really out of your mind if you think he is only on par with Stralman. Whether you like it or not, Girardi plays top defensive pair minutes for the Rangers, and he does a fine job. Its not easy to find a RHD who can play 22-25 minutes every night like Girardi does. If you think that Stralman or Klein could take on those minutes that Girardi does against the top lines in the NHL every night, then you are crazy.

The Rangers need to keep Girardi. Look at how much Princess Phaneuf got from the Leafs and he isn't even better than Girardi. He got 7 million, and Girardi is only asking for 5.4 million. The Rangers would be crazy not to keep Girardi given the need for a top pair RHD and his contract demands. His demands are fairly reasonable, unlike Callahan. If the Rangers are going to tank then trading Girardi is an option, but if the Rangers are going to continue to pretend to be cup contenders then they need a top pair RHD. Plugging in Stralman or Klein in the playoffs against a line like the Crosby line isn't going to work.

Don't forget that one big point he scored in all the playoffs last year.

I kinda agree with both of you. Girardi is an overrated defenseman IMHO, however, he is not asking for a completely insane ammount of money.

Taking the personal feelings out of it, the Rangers can afford to trade Callahan. He is a 3rd line RW who's role on the PP and PK has been reduced under AV. The Rangers could just slot JT Miller in there for the rest of the season if they don't get back a RW in return.

I think its funny that a 3rd line RW is asking for 7 million a year but a 1st pair RHD is only asking for 5.4. That shows you just how crazy Callahan is. He doesn't even deserve 5 million. I'd wouldn't give him a cent more than he is making now, which is 4.825 million.
