Seattle had all the edges on D, Denver on O. peyton wouldn't have needed to pull it off by himself having the most talented O in the league around him. he needed to play a decent game to give them a chance, he couldn't do that. it's not all his fault but once again he ends a season w/ a terrible game.
That's interesting b/c this team won a playoff game w/ less talent w/ TIM TEBOW at QB and last I checked Indy is doing just fine getting to the playoffs w/o Peyton. Denver has the most talented O in the league, if healthy on D they would have a top 10 type of D but obviously they weren't healthy. You can't ask for more offensive talent than he had this year.
Some Facts: -Brady has not won a Super Bowl for 9 years. -During that stretch, he has had some pretty terrible playoff losses. -Manning defeated Brady in the AFCC literally 2 weeks ago. -Manning broke Brady's single season TD record this year. -Manning won his 5th NFL MVP award. Brady has 2. If you wanted to make a thread saying "Lets not call Peyton Manning the best of all-time anymore", that would be fine, even if not accurate. This though? Come on!
the offense didn't match up well with Seattle's defense. the very first two passes of the game exemplified that. 4-5 yard catches that Denver all year turned into 9-10 yard gains after the catch got their receivers absolutely rocked. Denver was not used to what they ran into yesterday, so what they did against the rest of the league is absolutely irrelevant against Seattle and they certainly had no offensive advantage. you act like Manning had all day sitting in the pocket and was missing guys who had separation. if so, you didn't watch the game. the receivers had no separation, and Seattle was putting pressure on with just the front four. Manning played horrible for the same reason the entire Denver offense played horribly -- they didn't match up well against Seattle despite dominating the rest of the league. or did you miss the fact that his arm was hit on the INT-TD? you act like he just threw it to the LB. that is a testament to Seattle, not an indictment of Manning.
Seattle opened as a 1 point favorite, and it really should have been 4 or 5. All the advanced stats pointed to the Seahawks being a clearly better team. Not to mention historically the great D generally beats the great O. What happened after that was somewhat predictable, more casual fans bet the SB and they poured in heavy money on the game's biggest star (Peyton) so the line went to a shocking Denver -3, which I thought was arguably the craziest spread in SB history (special mention to Pats -14 over the Giants which was just laughable too). The NFC should have been favored in this game no matter what, anyone who paid attention to this season could have told you that.
Bingo. How on earth does what happened to Peyton yesterday somehow make Brady look better? They played TWO WEEKS AGO against comparable Ds and Peyton clearly and significantly outplayed Brady. He clearly and significantly outplayed Brady the entire season. Brady's season throwing the ball was far closer to a guy like Cam Newton than Peyton Manning. How could anything that happened this year somehow convince a person that you can no longer compare Peyton to Brady? The idea is just absurd. Because Brady failed more consistently this season and then head to head against Peyton in the playoffs, this somehow makes him untouchable and better? I don't get this thread.
ok, you know it's been 7 years since Peyton won his lone title, right? manning had a MUCH better team 2 weeks ago and in 2006. 2006 Brady's weapons were Reche Caldwell and Jabar Gaffney, 2 weeks ago Julian Edelman was his best weapon. Manning never gets close to a title game that talent. who cares? in the biggest game he led his O to 8 garbage time pts and had as many INts for TDs as TD passes who cares, when it mattered most he led his O to 8 pts. I don't act like anything, nowhere did I blame peyton but how come we can praise him when he doesn't get touched and has all day to throw and pick apart a D but can't criticize when he faces a little pressure and fails?
all I heard for the last 2 weeks was how this was Peyton's coronation, how he passed Brady and Montana and would be the greatest of all time so when he fails the way he did playing awful why can't we criticize? It's comical how we are only allowed to praise Manning and never allowed to bash. when they have success it's all b/c of Peyton, when they fail it's everyone but Peyton. Interesting how that works.
Who the fuck said Manning would pass Montana? Neither Brady or Manning deserve to be in the running for the greatest of all time. Junc, any more of these QB threads and you'll be unwittingly responsible for a DdOS attack on TGG.
Its garbage, Peyton carried this squad. You overrrated these recievers all year, hell you claimed this was one of the greatest WR corp of all time. They don't compare to what the 49ers even have. They got manhandled yesterday, because they aren't that good.
yep, he carried the squad that tim Tebow won a playoff game w/. Tim Tebow averaged the same # of postseason wins per year as Peyton Manning. Denver is LOADED w/ talent especially on O.
"he needed to play a decent game to give them a chance, he couldn't do that." sounds like blame. a decent game would not have been enough. beyond that, please explain how he could have had a better game with the pressure he was under and nobody open to throw to. the team was shut down, and when you shut down receivers and bully the O Line you reduce the QB's efficiency.
Not from me. I was saying that Seattle was basically a lock in this game and Peyton would have multiple turnovers. I would have been saying the same thing if it had been Brady and the Pats playing Seattle.
He didn't cost them the game the way he did his last SB or the game vs. Baltimore last year but when your best player isn't anywhere near his best it's hard to have chance.
How is that a terrible argument? TIM TEBOW took a less talented Bronco team to postseason and won a postseason game. I think that alone tells us how talented they were then and they are MUCH more talented now.
You are very hypocritical too. Saying Brady left the field with the lead in his two Super Bowl losses, yet blaming Peyton for losing to the Ravens despite having a 7 point lead with less than a minute left and his D allowing a 70 yard TD pass. Wow.
I'll take Peyton Manning over any QB the Jets have ever had. That's all I know lol. I'll also take him over any Jets QB to win me one game.
So true, he can't even keep track of the nonsense he is spouting. I'm still trying to figure out how Brady enhanced his legacy v. Peyton's this season when a) Peyton won his 5th MVP and Brady was never even a contender for the award, b) Peyton shattered Brady's single season TD record and threw twice as many TDs as Brady did this season, c) Peyton's team had a better record and got the 1 seed, d) Peyton played Brady in the AFC CG and unquestionably outperformed him while both players were playing roughly the same level of D in that game (Peyton's team also won the game easy) I think this season showed the widest disparity between the players in a very long time. Brady was nowhere near Manning's level and one wonders if he ever will be again. To me, the all-time ranking gap was closed by Peyton this season and he's in my opinion ahead of Brady again.
