he was probably told "hey schefter, it's pretty likely that the jets and bucs have interests in mike vick." schefter is never someone to give his opinion on his twitter, he usually only says stuff that is straight from the source. the bucs and jets are some random teams for him to just think of
don't be ridiculous he's already a running back! what is he gonna hand it to himself or something... wait a second... Boss Hog the wildcat QB! GENIUS.:metal: Vick makes the most sense for the jets to sign from an on field standpoint, dudes still got damn good legs for a guy his age and an average passing ability that should be enough to game manage in this offense. his personality in the locker room seems just fine of late and he should readily accept a role he's given, wether thats as starter, or backup/wildcat back. Theres even a chance he might even beat out smith while a thought prevails that the latter remains the future. Mike's not gonna be start material for long, he even admitted it himself. Vick might bring a positive impact to Smiths career by letting him digest and grow at his own pace while a cable vet runs an improved offense. the only reservation I'd have is with his *ahem* history, but I'm not one to harp on something he's already payed his dues for and shows no signs of regressing to. I won't outright ignore his transgressions either but I can accept and respect that he's a guy doing what he knows he's best at as he tries to move on from something awful. I won't refuse service from somebody that brings value to a job despite his past in other words. If the jets brought him in it would be about the best they could have down short of maybe signing Shaub (maybe), their options aren't all that great at QB regardless.
Vick on my team would make be sad beyond belief. He served his time and fine he get's to play in the NFL. I just really really really don't want it to be for my team.
No, he will never pay his dues for that. I am not sure I could watch the Jets if they were to sign that POS. Hopefully they wont be that stupid. He is not even a good investment as a backup.
What has Geno done to give anyone confidence that we should go into the season without a challenge for him for starting qb? People want to just hand him the stating job? I don't know if you noticed but Geno was a turnover machine and was down right terrible for a large portion of the season. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Vick were to beat out Geno.
Just draft another QB aka Taj Boyd or Aaron Murray and be done with it. Dumpster diving will not get it done. Would love to get Johnny Manziel , but he will be gone by our pick, and I sure as hell hope we have quit the trading up formula. No to Vick.
Whether or not he did his time, I still don't like him as a person. There's no excuse for killing those dogs in the first place. I will not root for any team that puts him on the field, even if it's the Jets.
I'm not sure how I feel about this either. I'm leaning towards not liking it, not really because of his past transgressions but more because I think he's basically kind of worn out and he's just not that good anymore plus he's likely to get injured. On the flip side I appreciate giving Geno real competition and if he is better and can help us win more games then you have to back that up, what kind of fan cheers against wins? My issues are that it creates a QB controversy, he will likely go down to injury at some point and Geno will have to come in anyway. I can't really decide if that is a benefit or a terrible thing.
Don't the Jets 'have interest' in Mike Vick every single year? How many times has he actually wound up with the Jets
I thought there was some issues with MM and Vick. Anyone remember reading that?. To me Vick would create instant competition and it would be very difficult to find a better back-up.
I doubt there's anything of merit here, Schefter is just throwing it out there to generate clicks.. I imagine he either put 2 and 2 together (Jets have QB needs, Jets have the morningweg connection) or his when talking to his Jets source about Vick he got a generic answer like "vick is an interesting veteran, we plan to take a look at all options" and considered that as the Jets interest... Not saying I'd be against the signing, I just don't like this era of silly tweeting of non-stories like this.
He didn't even say they did have interest he said the Jets and Bucs were "likely to have some level of interest". He's speculating and says so. The thread title is wrong.
I don't know if that makes Vick a "partial solution" or part of a bigger problem. Last year when Geno struggled, we had no one proven to go to, if Vick is here, he likely wins any competition in TC or PS. If he goes down, we are back in the same situation we started in... with Geno and no one proven behind him. The positive with Vick, even though he has proven to be injury prone, he hasn't shown that it gets to him mentally the way Sanchez has. If the idea is to let Vick start and Geno gets to watch a few games, maybe learn a little more about the system, then come in to finish the year, I'm good with it. If the idea is having Vick set the bench until Geno gets booed out of the game, I think it's a bad plan.
mccown did nothing his entire career prior to being in trestmans system with marshall and jeffries to throw to. I don't think he's better than Vick. I agree Vick has warts but IMO he's clearly the best available FA QB
I don't buy it or like it. The entire team is getting younger and there's no reason to bring in a stop-gap like Vik, Even if he wins the job there's no way he could play through the entire season. TBH I'd rather Geno not learn from Vik at all as he was never really to meld his extreme athleticism into an effective game plan. Would much rather get a pocket passer for him to learn the game from, and use his athleticism when he can rather then learn to use his athleticism and then be forced into a game plan later in his career.
