Not the greatest but Riley Cooper, Percy Harvin, Aaron Hernandez have had an impact in the NFL. David Nelson played at Florida to.
The sad part about Hill is that its actually hard to choose a bust at WR in the 2nd round. How many WR bust do you hear of ever? Its typical Jets though.
I was trying to prove my point, let's not get caught up with specific teams or conferences. You proved wih that list, the quality of Florida WRs is sub standard. Hill isn't a failure because he went to Georgia Tech. The best WR in the last 10 years comes from the same school. You have to look at individual players and their talent and production. Good WRs come for all conferences.
I still want Decker, if only because I've convinced my self the costs won't be astronomical as we think through one means or another and that he'd be a great fit in this O. I guess it all comes down what MM and idzik deem most valuable to his offense come march. if thats Decker in free agency the jets shouldn't be afraid to add a little incentive at the tail end to get him. might be cheaper then some other options in the end...
Thats all well and good, but it doesnt mean shit to me. What matters to me is what I see on the football field, and what I see doesnt impress me or lead me to believe that he will ever be on a similar list to the one above. Dont just name other people who have put up similar numbers in their first 2 years to defend him, talk to me about his actual play. Nothing else matters. What leads you to believe that he can overcome all of his red flags that I listed before? Just saying that he was "raw" is an excuse for having just size and speed.
It's hard to imagine Jeffrey becoming what he is now here on the Jets. I just don't think the system would turn him into that.
There's a long list of quality receivers available to the Jets. Evans Texas A &M Beckham, LSU Matthews, Vandy Cooks, Oregon St Landry, LSU Herron, Wyoming Abbrederis, Wisconsin Campanaro, Wake Montcrief, Miss
Jeffery was widely regarded as a 1st round pick and the #1 WR in the draft until he had some BS weight issues and "character" concerns. Sure, some systems let certain WRs excel more than if they were in a different system. Talent is talent though. Would Wilkerson or Richardson excel in a different defensive system? Of course, because they have talent that transcends systems. So does Jeffery. He might not have put up the huge numbers that he did due to QB play and other factors, but he would have been without a doubt our best offensive weapon.
I think he could be a solid late round pick, he's very young (20) and should have probably stayed in school. Big body Kid with a lot of potential.
Wide Receiver is actually pretty notorious for having high picks bust. Just off the top of my head in the last ten years: A.J. Jenkins, Johnathan Baldwin, Quinton Patton, Ted Ginn, Charles Rogers, Mike Williams (DET), Brian Quick, Limas Sweed, Donnie Avery, Greg Little, Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas...all in round 1 or 2. I'll guarantee there's a lot more if you look it up.
If you want to talk about him getting favorable matchups and maybe show some examples I can understand but just pointing at the other weapons and concluding he can't do anything without them is foolish IMO.
Limas Sweed ... damn that was a player i thought would have been GREAT as a Jet coming out of college. Another sad reminder as to why i don't get to draft for the Jets. (and just so I am clear ... I realize there are MANY reasons as to why i don't get to do it)
Just to add my spin: Maclin, Decker ... first round TE (Ebron??) Then another WR or TWO later in the draft (round 3 on) 2nd Round on OLB, Safety or Guard
With all due respect, after last night's game, I can't imagine how anyone would still want Decker. He didn't drop any passes that I recall, but he was invisible. He had what, one or two catches? He couldn't get separation and was a nonfactor. The Jets don't need any WR like that. I realize that Decker wasn't alone in that, but Welker and Thomas were able to gain separation and make catches. I just think we can do a LOT better than Decker, and I still think he's gonna want to get paid.
This. As another example, I think the Pats have had several fairly high profile 1st and 2nd round WR prospects (one was from Florida) over the last 10 years who were busts. I wouldn't call Ginn or Avery busts, however. They were way overdrafted to be sure, but they have contributed much more than the others you name.
Decker was exposed and people STILL want Decker? Holy shit. Despite Seattle's pass defense Demaryius Thomas still had a good game.
