  1. Start Geno Smith

    76.1%
  2. Start Someone else via Free Agency or Draft

    12.9%
  3. Start Matt Simms

    1.0%
  4. Start Mark Sanchez

Where did you get that I said YOU were/are a Tebot????

    Unbelieveable.

I will not bother pointing out how you are wrong to say Orton never had success.

If I missed that you are no longer a Sanchez Fan, I seriously do apologize, though. I must also add, however, that i am doubtful that is the case since you say he is no worse than Orton.

Or maybe you are just an Orton Hater? Let me think about that one.

Btw I thought i should add that Orton's career passer rating is 79.7 while Muck's is 71.7. I think that's a significant metric showing who is better.

Just dispelling any idea that I am part of any faction or group that's all (Sanchez supporter, Tebot, Geno Nuthugger, etc). I am a Jet fan and that's it. Again, I was never a Sanchez fan, I rooted for the kid to succeed because he was our starting QB, no different then Geno Smith.

I am not an Orton hater, there's nothing special about him. He has a loser mentality - and he's seriously being overpaid right now 4.5M.

Oh and regarding passer rating, Kyle Orton has a higher passer rating then Johnny Unitas, by your logic that means Orton was a better QB then Unitas. Is that the case? QB rating is a severely overrated stat and it is not the end all be in judging QBs

I say start him. Build the team around him through free agency and draft. What do we have to lose? Give him 2014 to sink of swim

The value of your receiving targets cannot be understated. Just look at a guy like Brady. Sure, you could argue he isn't quite in his prime anymore, but with garbage at WR this season, he basically threw the ball on par with a Cam Newton. In 2007, with great targets, Brady tossed 50 TDs and had one of the best passing seasons of all-time. Who you are throwing to matters, there's no reason to believe Geno would not throw the ball better with a better WR corps and TE.

While your right about not finding any long term options through FA it's not a given that you cant find anybody immediately better then Geno. Why not bring in a FA QB? That way if you come to the conclusion at some point next year that Geno isn't the answer you still have some hope for a season. Then you go out and draft a QB the following year like you said or groom another guy you drafted in this upcoming draft (if the Jets choose to go down that road).

If the Jets aren't sure about Geno, and it looks like they clearly are not, then they shouldn't blindly hand him the job, cross their fingers, and hope for the best. That's what they did with Mark, that's part of what got the last GM fired.

There should always be competition until it's clear you have your guy.

I would be more comfortable with Sanchez as the Jets starting QB going into 2014 rather than Sanchez...and I wouldn't feel comfortable with that.

I'd like to see a QB competition between Smith, Simms and a draft pick. Cut the worst of the bunch, and bring in a veteran backup.

If you knew more about football you'd know a comparison between Unitas and Orton based on passer rating is inappropriate. Different era, different rules. Investigate and you will understand.

But it is a fair comparison between Orton and Sanchez. Figure it out yourself. You might even be able to do so with your current sorry state of football knowledge.

Using passer rating as your main supporting fact is inappropriate. Vince Young at one time had one of the higher passer ratings in the league - I don't put much weight into that stat - hell it is rarely used on this board.

The way you talk up Kyle Orton is similar to the way Hobbes talks about Sanchez. I'll take the kid with some upside as my back-up.

At this point in the thread, everyone's posted almost all possible perspectives. But I agree that if Geno beats out a veteran (Vick), and whatever else the front office brings in (Simms plus a rook [Fales? Garoppolo?]), then it'd be a mistake not to be comfortable with Smith starting. We all know that he's got the physical tools to be successful in the league (i.e., the arm talent to place the ball where it needs to be, the ability to reset). It's a question of whether the game slows down for him, mentally, and whether he can keep his mechanics under pressure (e.g., Luck/Wilson), or whether he breaks down and spitballs (e.g. , Stafford). Assuming that he wins a legitimate QB competition, Smith will go a long way towards answering those questions.

As a Jets fan, I want to believe that he will. As a football fan, I'm not so sure that will be what Smith does.

except Hobbes has some knowledge, anyone backing Orton clearly doesn't know much about this game.

Mediocre-at-best QB's shouldn't deter the Jets from drafting one...

Not as inappropriate as comparing radically different eras in the history of football.

But you would know that if you knew more about football.

lmao, "you don't know football" is that all you can say? Please be more original. your arguments lack creativity and a lack of details. OMG Orton has a better QBR then Sanchez! he must be a better QB.

Jason Campbell has a higher QBR then Andrew Luck, they are in the same era. Campbell MUST be better by your logic. :rofl2:

A man that has a man-crush for Kyle Orton has no credibility. Tell me, do you have a tattoo of Kyle Orton?

    Does it look like this?

Big Blocker logic #1 - if you supported Sanchez, you don't know football!
Big Blocker logic #2 - if you have a higher QB rating, you are automatically the better QB, no further details needed.

Sometimes accuracy is more important than creativity. You can't be mad at me for your choosing to compare Johnny Unitas's qb rating to some qb who is contemporary.

    Learn the game, dude.

Twelve words for one yard. Look that up.

That's how I feel about Geno - until he proves otherwise.

There's nothing accurate about your statement. Just because QB A has a higher QB rating then QB B, does not mean QB A is better.

Learn the game, dude - #s are not the end all be.

    Jason Campbell > Andrew Luck

Big Blocker logic - you know that should be a new meme.

To add - Tony Romo is the 5th best QB of all time according to Big Blocker. QBR, the end all be to all arguments.

I am comfortable saying let Geno come in and battle whoever is put up against him - Mark Sanchez, a rookie, Matt Simms, a Free Agent - he didn't do nearly enough to say he deserves to be handed a starting job.

He needs to show improvement with understanding the playbook, reading defenses, his release, footwork, pocket awareness, etc. The fact he had so many interceptions and none of them required a tip or great defensive play is a concern going into 2014. He just threw the ball to the wrong team without any issues way too much.
