Jets are now Seattle East?

Defense and the running game has been the Jets backbone for a while.

Not a ridiculously negative article by Cimini though. Not near his worst.

But I thought a ground attack and good defense was archaic? At least according to these all knowing posters.

 

Our offense is light years behind Seattle's. The guards are really bad, the quarterback is not in the same league as Wilson, and our weapons are worse. And their defense has the upper hand at LB and DB. We'll see what Idzik can do this offseason, but IMO we will always be behind the curve as long as Smith is the de facto starter.

Lets not get carried away here. It looks like we are going for that model and it will take a few more years... The future is deff bright...

If MM doesn't get that "pass no matter where we are on the field, including the opponents 1 yard line on first down" mentality in check, we are going to be in trouble... This team's offense needs to be centered on Ivory and Powell... We have a top 10 back talent wise and he should be rushing for 300+ times a year..

 

Yet Seattle didn't start winning until it found a 2x ProBowl QB that doesn't turn the ball over.

Granted, they also hit big on the 2010-2012 drafts. But really that's all secondary to the fact that Russell Wilson made them a legit SB contender.

Carroll and Schneider were 7-9 with Matt Hasselback and Tavaris Jackson in 2010-11 -- years in which they already had Lynch.

 

And I've always said that everything will ride on Geno's development.

I agree 100%. Any team can win with running and defense as long as they are getting above average play at QB.

The Niners proved it last year.

Almost.

The Jets were getting below average QB play in 2009 and just slightly above league average in 2010 (that's why the 2010 team was better and had a more realistic shot at the Super Bowl).

Although Kaepernick didn't throw for a ton of yards last year, he was definitely playing way above average at the QB position.

But the last thing we need is another thread debating QB play of the Jets past seasons.

The premise is that you don't need a super-star QB if you have a top-notch defense and rushing attack -- as long as your QB is above average.

I think you could make a case that the talent level was pretty similar.

Seems to me that Seattle is following our blueprint as far as the way they play, but they have followed a much different FO philosophy. What sets them apart is their ability to hit on a lot of mid-late round picks and make some shrewd FA signings, while we were busy trading away those mid/late round picks to move up in the draft or land a veteran.

And we paid for it in 2011 and 2012 with the lack of picks and Sanchez not panning out.

 

Seattle is way faster than we ever were.. but besides that we were kinda the same team.. but our new team is panning out kinda the same way.. Geno and Wilson are two different type QB's.. Geno is a natural born gun slinger and Russell is a great game manager. We TRIED to make Geno a game manager and run that boring west coast offense and it hurt us and he even said he was playing like a robot. WE have a chance to be better than them IMO
