put mark on Baltimore and the ravens are winning just as much through 2011. Maybe they don't win the SB b/c Flacco was as good as any QB has ever been in that postseason run but he also had weapons Mark could only dream of. Let's not pretend Flacco is great like everyone had to w/ Eli.
At the moment you would have to say Flacco is better. He is a Super Bowl MVP, where Sanchez can't even start over Geno Smith and is being kicked off the Jets. As overall players, they are pretty equal though. Not that complicated to see either.
SAnchez is the best QB in the NFL short of the elite 4 it seems. If he had weapons he'd be an atom bomb, thats why its so easy for the jets to give him the starting job-oh wait. I just... I can't see it... He's an unacceptably inconsistent player at his tenure and yet he's apparently better than so many other more consistent QB's... because they couldn't win with weapons? why is this guy so touted, he's really not that good! he's not even reliable...
You'd think they would with all the technology available and money that the NFL has. NFL has been seriously slacking at modernizing the game. Like, they still really have dudes with chains measuring first downs? Really? Basic math or a laser measuring device / small micro ruler could figure that shit out in seconds.
I use to be with the group that thought he was a goner before his bonus became due but I'm not so sure anymore. Right now I'm kind of leaning that he will be at through that date.
No one would ever say that. The debate has never been that Mark is a Top QB. The debate is he should not be given up on and he is the best option the Jets currently have, which are both true to me. If you think Joe Flacco is a Top NFL QB, then I should not debate sports with you, as you might not know too much about it.
It all comes down to what feels comfortable. I've been in major corporations where C-Level employees have their personal assistants literally print out all their emails so they can read it on paper. Still remember being employed as a corporate peon in a top-5 North American Advertising agency where COO would go home with over a hundred pages of printed email every day. And he would consistently get confused when trying print them out himself; so the company hired him a second personal assistant to ensure these emails were printed out for his train ride home. The higher up you are on the corporate ladder, the more leverage you have when it comes to refusing suggested technology upgrades. Even today, for many large corporations, fax machines are still used to send contracts back & forth.
No one gave up on Mark. He gave up on himself. His play on the field dictated his current status. The team gave him every possible chance to keep the job. But there comes a point of failure when you just have to cut ties. 61 starts is not giving up on anyone. It's the exact opposite. The money invested in Mark, the time the team spent on him, the number of games he played in. He got extra chances even after terrible games because of the playoff Ws his first two years. His fans can never forget the little bit of success he had. And believe me he was not that good. Ever. He followed on the coat tails of a few decent teams who were basically pretty lucky to even make the playoffs. Esp the first season when the Colts let them win a game they would have lost. As a Jets fan am I afraid if they cut Mark he'll be great with another team. I have no concern about that at all. If he does so be it. But he won't.
No one ever says it. But folks on here as acted like Mark could be as good as certain QB's if he had weapons. And only Brees, Rodgers, Brady and Peyton are better without a doubt.
I wonder if other teams forums argue the flip side? "Blaine was never given as strong team, if he had something like Sanchez or Flacco had when they started their career he would be as good" "Matt Stafford was asked to do much. We asked him to throw 700 times, what happened if we put him on a talented team like the Jets who would limit the need for passing?" "Brandon Weeden was never given a fair chance. New coach every year, traded his 1st round running back, his top WR was suspended to start the season. Look what happened to PIT and BAL this year when they didn't have talent" "Josh Freeman gave his team the lead in his first two games this season and his defense blew it in the final minute. What if the coach believed in him and we gave him a fair chance on a defense that could protect a lead?"
Sanchez should be given up as a Jet, its been 5 years theres no time to develop marginal talent at best for this long. Patience is a good thing, but everything in a moderation. While Smith isn't a sure fire franchise QB out the gate he still has a lot of potential (MUCH more than Smith) and a bit of time to show he can be. Sanchez's is over and done. The idea that he's the best QB the Jets have...thats uncomfortably debatable to many, most importantly of all to the powers that be. and thats why he has no value for the Jets. If he's better than Smith he's BARELY better, or else it wouldn't be in question enough to warrant a SECOND COMPETITION between the two. why keep an inconsistent veteran for any amount when theres a talent barely below that mark if at all that still has an opportunity to blossom? he doesn't even have the reliability to perform in the role the cut and resign trait of thought is asking for. Yeah theres a lot of that. Romo isn't good in the clutch, Stafford has weapons but can't produce, etc. In a league with 4 unquestionably better QB's and everybody else, apparently Sanchez is on that second level and just can't be appreciated as such. Theres a line of thinking that Sanchez is on that level because he was able to do enough to get into the postseason with much less than the others have had in the past. In reality his role in those wins, while somewhat positive at times, is overstated (see counting playoff wins as a defining QB stat rather than a reflection of a team) I think our starved fanhood is leading us to fear that something that was part of that success will be gone soon. He wasn't that crucial to those wins and hasn't played at even a level that high since to suggest thats the case. exactly, people are asking for another chance to player thats had his. MULTIPLE TIMES. don't be afraid Jets fans, just let go...
I bet... In fact after lurking on the jaguars SB nation blog I can test to the Gabbert one. there was one guy that stood by him saying that he needed a better o-line to succeed and that his young age was an asset. he hated the idea of drafting a QB because they'd be put in the same situation, ignoring the faults laid on the shoulders of Gabbert himself.
I think a lot of these fans on other teams realize that their QB's sucks and wants them gone. It's amazing that these fans want to hold on to a mediocre QB because they have an emotional connection with Sanchez. They romanticize those playoff runs and want to keep him in hopes that he can do it again. Those playoff runs were fun but it's been 4 years.
