We should refer to this picture every storm GQ...great job..great job posting this. Ok..you can see where the center of the low is right? About a 100 miles east of south jersey. We talk about counter clockwise rotation needed to bring the cold air down..down..right? Imagine if that center was in the middle of PA..center of the storm..you can see how the winds would bring the air up from the south right? I have tried to explain this many times but this picture...thats why you want the storm to your right for snow..MOST OF THE TIME...and when its to the left..going towards the great lakes..you get the southern feed....rain. Nice job.
and just for the record..its not actually the radar..its showing wind speed and direction. Its more cool so who gives a crap..I get it..lol.
http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=-74.03,40.06,3000 here it is again..you can now see the center of the storm about 200 miles off the coast of NJ..its flying out of here..snow should be coming to an end east of NYC very very shortly.
Can't wait to wake up at 5am to find out if I have a 2 hour delayed opening! Except I'll just use those two hours to clear my car and get it unstuck. Damn RWD!
amazingly....L.I. is about to get still round 2 of the storm. Thats if for me guys tonight...just checked future models and they are showing two possibles next week...tuesday and thursday...sound familiar? TRENDS..will probably be 1 storm...and wouldnt surprise me if the setup is same as this..only more north.
There's practically no snow on anyone's cars here. It's almost like someone cleared them all off. Streets in my apartment complex are covered in a snow/ice mix though. That's going to be hell. Only one hour delayed opening.
Omg,,,,,,just went out with the lower,,,,,,brutally cold,,,especially when the wind blows,,,, ,be safe all
gas last night was brutal at first I was going to stay up to watch tennis, but I wasn't feeling great and they pushed the start time back to 3:40 AM or something, so I tried to go to sleep. I didn't have the space heater on because it's noisy and keeps going on and off, so I tried to go to sleep without it. Lay awake for hours. Finally turned it on around 7:30 AM and fell asleep I think, but then the guy from the plumbing/heating place came so I only slept an hour. Turns out the pilot light was out which could've been a simple fix. Guy charged $225+tax for spending 10 minutes here. Worse than a doctor. Radiators still haven't gone on upstairs. I'm hoping soon.
Models popped the Tuesday storm for Monday/Monday night and its something to really keep an eye on..folks up north come into play on this one. Will check tonite.
Jay Thanks again for advanced warning. NJ12 News is also showing snow for Monday. Will wait for your updates as always.
i see they're forecasting another big snow dump for Monday http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/next-significant-northeast-sno/22397585
ha!...me and my weather lingo. Guys..not going to be a party pooper and I can easily be wrong but not totally sold on this one. Whats happening after the last storm is that many in the weather community are trying to say well if that happened last time..this should have happen this time. Now dont get me wrong, Im all into trends but this is a different setup with different blocking to the north. The cold air dynamic is different so much so that there will be rain maybe to the south? If im reading it correctly. Add to that no model has shown a bomb signature yet..none. I think whats happening here is the setup is very similar but theres more to it than that. Again, lets see how the models play out and how the experts see the next 24 hours. What I saw from the beginning was a 2 storm setup and then 1 that took over..same as last week. When you dig deeper, there should have at least been a model run that showed huge storm. Lets see the next 24 hours.
wild accum difference. Take Bergen County. Oradell...NW Bergen county 4" Little Ferry..SE Bergen County 13.4" The cutoff line was amazing.
yea it was a hard line for sure. i got an 1" and 2 miles from me there isn't a sign of snow ever being on the ground
NWS saying the front coming through on Saturday will be moistured filled. Imagine summer months when its hot and humid and fronts come through and its quick pouring rain. This is on the same order. Usually these fronts in the winter are moisture starved..this one may be an exception. As it says, no huge amounts of snow but could have some real heavy snow squalls. Been reading NWS write ups for almost 40 years..and have never seen something like this this far out..so keep an eye out for Saturday: CTZ005>012-NJZ002-004-006-103>108-NYZ067>075-078>081-176>179-241130- NORTHERN FAIRFIELD-NORTHERN NEW HAVEN-NORTHERN MIDDLESEX- NORTHERN NEW LONDON-SOUTHERN FAIRFIELD-SOUTHERN NEW HAVEN- SOUTHERN MIDDLESEX-SOUTHERN NEW LONDON-WESTERN PASSAIC- EASTERN PASSAIC-HUDSON-WESTERN BERGEN-EASTERN BERGEN-WESTERN ESSEX- EASTERN ESSEX-WESTERN UNION-EASTERN UNION-ORANGE-PUTNAM-ROCKLAND- NORTHERN WESTCHESTER-SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER-NEW YORK (MANHATTAN)-BRONX- RICHMOND (STATEN ISLAND)-KINGS (BROOKLYN)-NORTHWESTERN SUFFOLK- NORTHEASTERN SUFFOLK-SOUTHWESTERN SUFFOLK-SOUTHEASTERN SUFFOLK- NORTHERN QUEENS-NORTHERN NASSAU-SOUTHERN QUEENS-SOUTHERN NASSAU- 619 AM EST THU JAN 23 2014 THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT...NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY AND SOUTHEAST NEW YORK. .DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.
