If he wants to change it, move the pat attempts back 10-15 yards. That will give teams more incentive to go for two, but allow pat. Shit give the option for a 3 pointer from the 50. The XFL reinvevted...
From a practical point of view it really makes very little difference (with 99.6% of PATs being successful), so what this comes down to is the tradeoff of a very small chance of a PAT being missed and it ending up making a difference in strategy or outcome versus a very small chance of someone getting injured on a PAT (but remember that does happen - Gronkowski broke his arm on an extra point last year). And for all of those people who like the PAT because of its history, the fact that there are now kicking specialists is much more of a violation of "history" - it used to be PATs were far from automatic, because wide receivers and running backs were doing the kicking. Would you have railed against the idea of a specialist kicker 50 years ago? That was a vastly more important change than this would be.
I wouldn't shed a tear if those go away. I'd be in favor of either having the person who scored a touchdown attempt the PAT or make it a 35 yard attempt to reduce automatic percentage. Very rarely are PAT's flat out missed... if they fail, it was probably blocked
Roger Goodell is the worst commissioner we've endured in any of the four major sports since the 70's ... And it isn't close. Every decision the guy makes is another step toward making football unrecognizable, and this is just another example. I'm sure he's a smart man ... But he's an idiot. We need him out of here ASAP before he does some damage to the sport that's unfixable.
that's a 1 in thousand play. I disagree, his hands are tied w/ all these lawsuits. he is being proactive and saving the game. There are many things that have been done under his watch that I hate(such as Thurs night football, night playoff games, no more sat afternoon games, etc...) but overall he has done an outstanding job.
I didn't miss the point, that play you showed was not a PAT. You know one time a player fumbled trying to kneel on the ball back in 1978- know how many times it has happened since?
Actually, had he just kneeled down the Giants win that game and we never hear anything about it ever again. Joe's problem was he tried to hand it off to Csonka  _
good point but either way how many times have we seen a team fumble in a spot like that? it happens as often as K missed an extra point or a FG from PAT distance.
