This thing is fun. I gave it a whirl, operating under the assumption that we'll be addressing several needs in FA. ROUND 1: WR Jordan Matthews, Vanderbilt ROUND 2: WR Kelvin Benjamin, Florida State ROUND 3: OLB Adrian Hubbard, Alabama ROUND 3: OT Jack Mewhort, Ohio State ROUND 4: TE Jake Murphy, Utah ROUND 5: S Terrence Brooks, Florida State ROUND 6: Victor Hampton, South Carolina ROUND 7: OG Chris Watt, Notre Dame
If the Jets don't ever draft a 1st round QB again, you might as well stop rooting for them now, because the odds of their finding a franchise QB or a QB who can play well enough to help them win a VLT after that point are impossibly low. There's a reason why the top QB prospects go in the 1st round. I don't understand the lack of attraction to college ball. Football is football. Sometimes and in some ways, the excitement is even better than with the NFL. There are fun offensive systems that don't work in the NFL and entertaining gadget plays. I wish I had time to watch MORE college football.
Perhaps not, but to have sustained success, more often than not, one needs a true franchise QB, and most often they are drafted in the 1st round. With everything else being equal, I'll take my chances with 1st round QBs over 2nd round or lower QBs.
Fine, think what you like. I don't think it is. We obviously disagree. I'm not advocating drafting guys like McCarron, Mettenberger, Fales, or Murray in the 1st round. IMO they're all 3rd round picks or lower, possibly as low as the 5th round. IMO Ponder, Dalton, Flacco and others have been over drafted. OTOH Geno and Kapernick fell to the 2nd round, and I think that was about right. What I'm ultimately saying is that with QB being THE most important position on a team, with the NFL being a passing league, if one wants to have consistent success over a longer period of time, one needs to find a topflight QB. Usually those are found in the top 5-10 picks in the first round. Give me a Luck, Peyton Manning, Bridgewater any day over those QBs taken in the 2nd round and lower. Have there been first round busts like Ryan Leaf? Yes. Have some QBs been overdrafted? Definitely. Have some great QBs come out of being drafted lower than the 1st round? Again, definitely, but there are a lot fewer of those than have come out of the 1st round.
Just finished drafting 1-CJ Mosley LB, Bama 2- Odell Beckham JR WR, LSU 3- Ka'Deem Carey RB, Zona 3- Anthony Steen G, Bama 4- Scott Crichton DE, Oregon St. 5 - Terrance Mitchell CB, Oregon 6- Mike Davis WR, Texas 7- Eric Ward WR, Texas Tech
I noticed a few players were deleted (that didn't declare) and a lot added. It changes the parameters of how your drafts ends up compared to last week.
Yes, I think it's more realistic now. Like the improved ratings. In the following draft, I took BPA through the 3rd round. In the 4th round I "reached" a little for Yarwin Smallwood, to address a need because the top two players on the board were RBs Andre Williams and Charles Sims, a little further down were both Carlos Hyde and Jeremy Hill, and there were a bunch of DTs as filler. After taking Carey in the 3rd, there's no way to take another RB there. Had I known those RBs would all be there in the, I probably would have reached for Calvin Pryor with the 2nd pick of the 3rd round. The 5th & 6th round picks were both BPAs. In the 7th round I "reached" a little for Adam Muema, as a PR/KR & 3rd down back rather than taking DT Williami Moala. Even though I was disappointed not to get two WRs and don't know anything about Smallwood or Mitchell, I'd sign up for this draft in a NY minute. 18 TE ERIC EBRON UNC 49 WR ODELL BECKHAM JR. This time, I didn't worry about BPA, just took the player I thought both addressed value and need at that point in each round. I think this would be an incredible draft, and would definitely be excited about this draft. It would address two needs on D, yet add a TON of talent in offensive playmakers on offense. 18 TE ERIC EBRON UNC 49 WR DAVANTE ADAMS FRESNO STATE 69 S CALVIN PRYOR LOUISVILLE 80 WR JARVIS LANDRY LSU 111 RB KA’DEEM CAREY ARIZONA 142 DE MARCUS SMITH LOUISVILLE 179 RB DE’ANTHONY THOMAS OREGON 210 TE JOE DON DUNCAN DIXIE STATE
This I would love, but I can't see how Carey would fall to the 4th round as of right now. Still, a draft I would love to come to fruition.
Yeah, I think it is a big stretch to think that all of the top RBs will fall into the 4th round (as happened in that draft). It would be a great steal to get Carey in the 4th. With a draft like that the WR, TE and RB positions would almost totally be made over.
First time after the updates. 18 TE ERIC EBRON (Best offensive weapon on the board.) UNC 49 OLB KYLE VAN NOY (Best player on the board & a position of need.) BYU 69 CB AARON COLVIN (Went E.J Gains last time, so I decided to change it up. Would be happy w/ either.) OKLAHOMA 80 WR BRANDON COLEMAN (I wanted a big target for Geno and they don't make them much bigger than Brandon.) RUTGERS 111 RB KA’DEEM CAREY (Best player on the board. Surprised he was there.) ARIZONA 142 QB AARON MURRAY (I want competition for Geno, & I like Murray. He's started in a pro style offense for 3 years. He's smart & accurate w/ the football. Moves well in the pocket w/ escape ability. Could develop into a quality QB.) GEORGIA 179 S HAKEEM SMITH (Joel Bitonio the OT was still available, but since I drafted him the last time I went a different route.) LOUISVILLE 210 WR JOSH HUFF (My favorite late round prospect.) OREGON
That would be an awesome draft...very nice...but guys this good won't fall this late especially in the 4th, 5th, and 6th round.
