The worst part is when they got the ball back they were throwing, so the punt wasn't a give up move. I guess he believed in 10 minutes his offense would get 3 more possessions without NE scoring once
I haven't read this thread tonight, but was Pagano roasted for punting on 4th and inches with 8+ minutes left? Because that was shitty. A total submission. They weren't going to win but 4th and inches with a 6' 5" QB?!?!?!?! down 2 scores? Just sneak it. What a puss.
BB has to get tons of credit for this. They came out and just ran it down the throats of IND. There was no stopping them and he didn't fall in the trap of giving it to his star QB, just kept on running. The defense made key plays. The only miscue was the punt snap. The team has shifted tremendously over his tenure. Granted he gets blame for making them too QB orientated with some missed drafts and etc, but he's got a run game it looks like. The defense stepped up for this game.
Meh. I don't think this took a great coaching job. This is not a talented Colts team. It's Luck, Mathis, and...T.Y. Hilton? Darick Rogers? Trent Richardson is on his way to all-time bust status. Some guy wearing #61 named Pendleton got his ass pushed around way too much on the D-line tonight. The Colts are lucky that Houston collapsed this year or they might not have even made the playoffs.
Indy's run defense was the weak link and Belichik just kept beating on it until he got the win. New England's run defense was their weak link also but the two early scores, one essentially off of a turnover, shifted the game away from that fact. Trying to go on the road and beat a team with a weak run defense by passing on them is a recipe for failure.
I'm sure the Colts would have loved to exploit the Pats run defense. unfortunately, Trent Richardson is a bust (so far) and Donald Brown is a Bilal Powell-level player. The Colts only hope is Luck passing. Unfortunately (again) they have literally nothing around him. No running game, a sub-par O-line, one good receiver who might not even be good if Luck wasn't his QB... And that's not even accounting for their terrible defense.
that was giving up on the game I guess he figured they were losing either way and he didn't want to risk giving NE another easy score Coaches sometimes quit on the game. vbetting up for Sunday http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=80085
This ^ This is a Colts team that's only a year removed from having a lousy Jet offense run it down their throat for 262 yards (161 by Shonn Greene alone).
Well, that's why you don't rely so heavily on one player. The Colts couldn't beat the Pats a decade ago with Peyton Manning and Edgerrin James at RB. There's just no way they're going to beat them now with the Andrew Luck show. That's not how the NFL works. It takes a team to advance in the playoffs.
They really are a one man show right now. If I were a Colts fan, I'd be optimistic because they have the most important position locked down, but depressed because name the top 5 Colts right now: Luck, Mathis, Hilton, Satele...then I don't know. It's great to have a QB, but everything else sucks for them. Also, their coach seems to be a puss.
Its so obvious that this team cheats every single week,I don't get how they get away with it.They did it for years before, they didn't stop they just got better at it
100% true. I just hope Brady and BB retire in the same year and the Pats fall off the map. Odds are they won't but it would be nice.
This game looks like a blow out, but it came down to three plays. First, the safety that should have been Colts ball on the two and 7 points instead of 2. How that awful play ends up as a safety is typical Pats luck. He punter is too stupid to run into the end zone with the ball and the tries to do something resembling a pass and it gets knocked through the end zone. Five point advantage Pats. Then the Colts can't get in the end zone with a first down inside the five early in he third quarter. Four point advantage for the Pats. Then, down by one score early in the fourth quarter with all the momentum, Luck is blatantly tripped while running on third down when he would have easily run for the first down and tripping is a 15 yard penalty. Instead it's a punt and a minute later a 14 point lead for the Pats. Seven point advantage pats The score should have been 31-28 Colts with the Colts driving early in he 4 th quarter. The who knows?
How was the safety play ruled incorrectly? I don't understand your stance. I thought the Patriots would win by double digits because the Colts defense has been bad all year. After the 2010 Packers won with injuries galore, we knew teams can overcome numerous injuries to key players as long as the QB is healthy. Wilfork, Gronkowski, Spikes, etc. It doesn't matter. As long as Brady remains healthy, they can win. For three months now, I have envisioned a Seahawks-Patriots SB. I would find it horrible to see these two teams, with former Jets coaches, play a Super Bowl in the Jets stadium. I doubt the Patriots would lose at home to the Chargers, so I will root for the Broncos to win. At least it will be tougher for New England to win in Denver.
Anyone think calls will go the 49ers and Broncos way today? 49ers at Seahawks is big for the NFL. Panthers at Seahawks not as much. Brady vs. Manning will get the highest ratings in NFL Playoff history. Brady vs. Rivers? No one will care. Big money on the line for the NFL. Hopefully there is no funny business today.
This is true but what are you going to do? Bill Belichik is a very smart guy and he's figured out over the years what you can get away with and what you can't. He coaches his team to dominate the gray areas and they do. On the other hand when Brady retires the Pats are toast. Brady is the fog that covers up all the gray area domination now. When the Pats don't have the guy everybody expects to win the game late on the field any more those non-calls and false calls are going to vanish in the mist. BTW, if they are the matchup the Broncos are probably going to beat the Pats. They have a decent run defense and they put a lot of pressure on the passer. I think Brady is going to be running for his life next week. He typically loses those games.
