going to be doing the draft order with how I think the rest of the post season plays out. 01: Houston -- Blake Bortles (QB, UCF) 02: Atlanta (TRADE) -- Jadeveon Clowney (DE, South Carolina) 03: Jacksonville -- Teddy Bridgewater (QB, Louisville) 04: Cleveland -- Johnny Manziel (QB, Texas A&M) 05: Oakland -- Darqueze Dennard (CB, Michigan State) 06: St. Louis -- Jake Matthews (OT, Texas A&M) 07: Tampa Bay -- Anthony Barr (OLB, UCLA) 08: Minnesota -- Derek Carr (QB, Fresno State) 09: Buffalo -- Khalil Mack (OLB, Buffalo) 10: Detroit -- Sammy Watkins (WR, Clemson) 11: Tennessee -- Cyrus Kouandijo (OT, Alabama) 12: New York (G) -- Greg Robinson (OT, Auburn) 13: St. Louis -- Mike Evans (WR, Texas A&M) 14: Chicago -- Louis Nix (DT, Notre Dame) 15: Pittsburgh -- Marqise Lee (WR, USC) 16: Dallas -- Vic Beasley (OLB, Clemson) 17: Baltimore -- Allen Robinson (WR, Penn State) 18: New York (J) -- Jace Amaro (TE, Texas Tech) 19: Miami -- Ra'Shede Hageman (DT, Minnesota) 20: Arizona -- Cameron Erving (OT, Florida State) 21: Green Bay -- C.J. Mosley (ILB, Alabama) 22: Philadelphia -- Hasean Clinton-Dix (S, Alabama) 23: Kansas City -- Kony Ealy (DE, Missouri) 24: Cincinnati -- Taylor Lewan (OT, Michigan) 25: New Orleans -- Stephon Tuitt (DE, Notre Dame) 26: San Francisco -- Justin Gilbert (CB, Oklahoma State) 27: New England -- Eric Ebron (TE, North Carolina) 28: Denver -- Kyle Van Noy (OLB, BYU) 29: San Diego -- Ifo Ekpre-Olomu (CB, Oregon) 30: Carolina -- Cyril Richardson (OG, Baylor) 31: Cleveland -- Kelvn Benjamin (WR, Florida State) 32: Seattle -- Austin Seferian-Jenkins (TE, Washington) so this played out rather interesting. the top 3 receivers were gone before our pick so I chose one of the TE's. Ebron going to NE stung when I mocked it, but he was still there and we all know how NE is with their TE's. after Green Bay none of those teams really need a TE except KC but I think they really need a DE and GB has other needs, ILB being one of them. I think Cleveland made out really well, getting Manziel and Benjamin to add to Gordon and Cameron. I had Kouandijo go high because I think he's just going to impress at the combine and a team will take him high. Bortles going 1 overall because supposedly he's a Bill O'Brein type QB. this could just be a smoke screen, but I don't buy it. any questions or complaints?
I thing the eagles take Clinton-Dix. They took Cox in 2012 and Johnson in 2013. Plus they need a safety. Plus that would give them LeSean, DeSean, and Ha'Sean. Too many reasons not to. Overall I like the draft. I'm just not too sure about the raiders taking another corner. I have a feeling they might reach for Derek Carr. They definitely aren't happy with their QB situation.
Benjamin officially declared earlier today. He has so much upside I'd consider taking him at 18 and then grabbing Beckham in the 2nd. Although Amaro and Beckham would be a very nice haul too. Either way, we'd have that huge red zone threat, a big safety valve for Geno and also a deep threat who could stretch the field.
Do you really think Oakland would take another cb in the first round after just taking dj Hayden last year? That's a tough sell although dennard looks to be a great player
Oakland's secondary is terrible. Dennard is a huge CB prospect, I dont think I'm too far off in thinking Oakland will add a position of need. I mocked Evans to STL because they still lack a big playmaker. Sure Tavon Austin could be good but he didnt make as heavy an impact as expected. STL is in a tough spot and easily they are in the best division in the NFL. They should be getting Bradford as many weapons as possible. They need to make a splash. Evans, Austin and Stacy gives Bradford a nice core he hasnt had as of yet since being drafted. Jernigan is a day two player IMO. That could change, but as of now he isnt first round talent. He was shown gassed on the sidelines on the National stage.
Jernigan was a stud that game, couldn't be blocked. The whole thing with him getting gassed was strange but i believe he was battling some kind of virus that night...
I'm pretty high on Jordan Matthews from Vanderbilt...he seems to be the complete package. Good size at 6'3 205, from the tape i've seen great hand, and breakaway speed. I haven't heard to much about him, but his stats are extremely good, with what looked to me as good qb play, not like the qb made him. I think his stock will rise after the combine, oh and he lit it up in his bowl game.
I disagree. He was easily handled for almost the entire first half, and chunks of the second half. He made some big plays at times to be sure, but imo he was anything but a stud or dominant in that game. He may have been battling a virus, or could have just been out of shape. They hadn't played a game in how many days? It's harder for those big guys.
Ifo Ekpre-Olomu is staying in school. Timmy Jernigan is definitely a round 1 prospect as well. That gassed thing was overblown. He's potentially a top-15 pick at this point.
I disagree. we need a TE and after the top 3 are off the board there is a huge drop off in talent. the receiver pool is so deep that we could get a starter in round 2-3, even 4.
Oakland just drafted a CB last draft in the 1st round. They have tons of issues outside of CB. I see pass-rusher (Barr), or QB (Carr). One thing Oakland doesn't do is draft for need, they draft for talent and it has been that way since Al Davis was there.
The thing is that Al Davis is dead. They have an actual GM now, so I could see anything happening depending if he drafts for BPA, need or some combination of the two.
I don't think you got my point ... they still draft for talent first even after Al Davis left. Oakland needs more talent and will go the BPA route. No way is Dennard the BPA with Derek Carr, Anthony Barr, Sammy Watkins, and Jake Matthews still on the board. Oakland is not dumb to take 2 CBs in back to back years with a top 10 pick.
You wouldn't think he was, nor would I, but I don't think you can say with certainty that their GM would. You don't know how he and their scouting dept. grade positions or players. Like you, I couldn't see them passing up Watkins or Barr, but stranger things have happened in the draft.
