    Detroit:
Sanchez started the lions game shakey. I won't argue that.
His first pass to Powel was slightly behind and powel would have had to make a great play to haul it in ( which he did not ).
His pick six was a good play to show your team as to not how a FB screen. Bohanon got blown up in the back field instead of clipping and escaping. Aboushi got killed on the right side and there was pressure almost immediately on sanchez with the person he's supposed to throw the screen to already on the ground. Sanchez should have dumped the play, Alas he did not.

    Subsequent Drive ( from our 20 ):
    1&10 - 9yd to hill
    2&12 - 2yd to T-Bo
    3&10 - 19yd to Cumberland
    1&10 - 1yd to Powell [ Negated by holding ]
2&17 - *Incompletion to Kellen Winslow*
    3&17 - 10yd to Kerley

Touchdown Drive ( Still in the first quarter, from our 20 ):
    1&10 - 24yd to Winslow
2&7 - -4yd yd broken screen play to Powell
    3&11 - 24yd to Kerley
    1&10 - 7yd to Powell [ Negated by holding ]
    1&20 - 26yd TD to Cumberland

    * throw to Kellen Winslow that you'll remember was a bit high, Winslow tipped it, instead of catch it. And was almost intercepted. *

    Jacksonville

    Opening Drive ( From the 41 ): - TD
    2&10 - 11yd to Hill
1&10 - inc to Powell ( penalty, no play )
    3&4 - 14yds to Kerley
    1&10 - 23yds TD to Cumberland

    3/4 48yds TD

    2nd Drive ( NYJ 35 ): - Fieldgoal
    1&10 - 8yd to Kerley
    2&5 - 3yds to Bohannon
    3&2 - inc to S. Hill

    3rd Drive (NYJ 16 )
    1&10 - inc to Hill ( 18 yd PI )
    3&4 - 11 yds to Winslow
    1&5 - inc to Winslow
    3&3 - Int ( intended for Winslow )
    3/7 22yds INT

[ Majority of starters exit here ]
The rest of the game he was 6/12 94yds throwing to Edwards Spadola Reuland and Gates.

    Conclusions:
The detroit game Sanchez threw 10 Completions to 6 different receivers. He buckled down after the pick 6 and played a SOLID game. Take away that one bad decision to open the game it'd be a GREAT game. Even with the tipped ball from Winslow he still only had 3 incompletions.

The Jags game Sanchez started off pretty much perfect. His throws were on target and he was making the right reads. The interception intended for Winslow could def have been on either Winslow or Sanchez. Sanchez made a throw trusting / thinking Winslow would win the inside and be there to make the catch, Sanchez makes the throw, Winslow cuts behind DB instead of in front. interception. This wasn't a poor decision, or a bad throw. Simply a miscommunication. If Winslow steps in front of his man there's no way this isn't a TD.

So basically Sanchez had one poor decision, in 42 attempts. The rest of the time he was making throws on both intermediate and deep routes with pretty good success. Saying that Sanchez had no chance of improving and hasn't improved because of one play, 3 snaps into the season is kind of crazy.

This sums up Sanchez's career except take out "to open the game" to be more general. That's been his flaw the majority of his career here.

In the past couple years he's let that mistake compound badly though, Which is one of the major flaws I've heard people here say. Which i totally agree with, But in that situation, with fans booing him. Sanchez came back and continued to play great game.

That was usually part two of his flaw, compounding mistakes.

It's frustrating to watch because even when he has a clean game, you're waiting for the other shoe to drop and the backbreaking bad decision

The bottom line is that a pick 6 negates anything good in a drive. Or a red zone turnover. You can't just say everything was good until then. It doesn't wash. The problems with Mark in '11 and '12. Bro, this is an exhibition game and he can't even have a clean game esp when his job is in the balance. If you want to just toss stats around you can make Curtis Painter look like Unitas. So there was no improvement with Mark in the exhibition season. Same old same old.

How people can want Sanchez back is beyond me. Geno played better this year than any year Sanchez had other than 2010, but that does not mean Geno is the answer either though I think he showed in the last 4 games he has a shot to be that guy. You want to bring in a veteran or draft another QB, fine, but bringing back the worst starting QB ever over his first 4 years is lunacy

I can't believe a mediocre scrub QB generates this much discussion. He and his gross cap number will be gone shortly.

Again, let's see what the market is for Sanchez when he gets cut. I'll bet you he never starts another 16 game regular season in this league again. That tells you everything you need to know about him.

Are we really going to have 3 quarterbacks with starting experience in the mix?

Vick had a lot more prior success with Sanchez, even though a lot of it was with his legs. He was a playoff calibre quarterback without a lot around him in Atlanta.

Vick is better but even Mark has more left in the tank than Mike. As soon as he was benched the Eagles played much better. We can do a lot better than either of them. Vets will be cut (cap casualties) and we can get someone inexpensive for a year. Despite one of the most horrendous three game stretches for a Qb in NFL history (when he actually made Mark look like the better choice at Qb) Geno was 8-8 and played very well down the stretch. The exact opposite of what Mark did in '11 and '12.

Why so irrational? Why are the haters acting like Sanchez is a loser? He is actually a winner.

Geno had a worse rookie season then Sanchez did. Don't let the facts get in the way.

Say what you want about Sanchez but in the Playoffs the guy plays his best ball - 9 TD, 4 INT, 93 rating 4-2 record....Andrew Luck 3 games 8 INT 1-2 record, Andy Dalton 3 games 8 Turnovers 0-3 record. Regular season stats are pretty but it is better to play your best ball when you get to the dance and not in the parking lot.

Get some weapons on the offense and see if he can win the job in camp -- if not he isn't a bad insurance policy.

    Great response junc.

Truthbtold pretty accurately summed up that "3 measly points going into the 4th quarter" game, and you come back with nothing more than condescending fanboy hogwash?

With the game on the line and the Jets facing a 3rd and 5 and needing a 1st down to ice it, they took the ball out of Sanchez' hands and put it all on the OL and the run game. To his credit, Sanchez did a fine job handing the ball off.

The truth is, Nate Kaeding choking the game away (6 lost points, not including the 50+ yd miss) kept Sanchez' very pedestrian performance out of the post-game conversation .... at the final gun it was buried in the euphoria of the Jets' upset victory.

Rivers had a ton more put on his plate than Sanchez.

The Jets OL, the Jets D (including a very flukey Revis INT) as well as Nate Kaeding won the game for New York. Looking at the big picture, the game in its totality, Sanchez was mostly (not all, but mostly) just along for the ride.

    Aptly phrased.

People can belittle what sanchez did in the playoffs...at the end of the day he didn't lose any games, kept them in a position to win, and when he had to he made a play.

Andrew Luck tonight had the colts down to the 3 yard line -- 3 plays FG. 4 Interceptions...i bet if the Colts could look back and say would you be happy if luck threw for less yards, wasn't as dynamic through the air, and turned the ball over 0 times - they would have said hell yes sign me up!

Hell if they said if Luck had an identical to game to Sanchez in the playoffs in NE would you take that...oh you know they would kill for that game.

Any comparison to Luck needs to stop. He stepped into Peyton's role of perennial playoff team and willed these two teams to 11-5. Not only is he working with no running game and one wideout and tightend, but kept them in the ball game til the 4th.

Could you ever imagine Sanchez operating at the line like that? Having countless check with me audibles available at all times?

Blame it on the past coaching staffs for handcuffing him, but I really don't see Sanchez doing that. I can't say I see Geno doing it either but we'll see.

9 interceptions in the regular season - 7 in 2 games in the playoffs. No one cares what you do in the regular season. When you make the playoffs they care if you win or lose. Peyton is the greatest regular season QB ever...hit or miss in the postseason though....more miss.

As far as keeping them in the game -- i think his three interceptions kept them out of the game before his final minute 4th int..

And I've never liked Vick at QB, though granted he is a big play QB and exciting to watch with his running ability...but he's always been more hype than actual good QB. Though he's still better than Mark on the turnover to TD rate over his career, and even over his first 4 seasons, though not by a lot.

You are a funny dude. Why would a Jets fan want to subject themselves to more Sanchez? I don't get it. Sanchez has had plenty of regular season games that were do or die games in the regular season and Sanchez played atrociously. He is a bad QB. The day he is cut will be a celebratory day to end the nightmare that was scarily close to going on for a decade if those early teams were able to carry him to a Superbowl win like the Ravens did with Dilfer.

I like the way GGN put it: http://www.ganggreennation.com/2014/1/6/5280232/mark-sanchez-2013-and-beyond

"Mark Sanchez was not the worst Draft pick in NFL history.

Mark Sanchez had some terrific moments, many of which came in critical spots.

With that said, Mark’s career with the Jets was an enormous disappointment, and trading up for him in 2009 was one of the biggest mistakes the Jets ever made. There were some very nice moments, but look at the entire package. It cost the Jets two picks to move up for him. The Jets spent around $50 million in cap space over five years. For that they got a 55% passer who threw for more interceptions than touchdowns and averaged 6.5 yards per throw. They got four Playoff wins, but no Super Bowls. The Playoff wins don’t point to a guy who dominated in the clutch either. He melted down in critical games in 2011 and 2012. Wins in the Wild Card and Divisional rounds aren’t legacy games for great quarterbacks anyway...

...Over the years many things have been said to try and explain Mark Sanchez’s career. He’s clutch. His offensive line is killing him. He has been held back by terrible coordinators. He doesn’t have good receivers. He doesn’t care enough. He cares too much. He’s too much of a politician. He can’t lead because he wants to be everybody’s friend. He’s a great leader because he wants to be everybody’s friend. He works hard. He doesn’t work hard enough, and many more. Many of those statements are probably true on some level, even the seemingly mutually exclusive ones.

Ultimately I think about a principle called Occam’s Razor, the simplest explanation is often the correct one. In the case of Mark Sanchez, the simplest explanation for his career is that he isn’t that talented. The fact people point to a season in 2009 where he completed less than 54% of his passes and threw 12 touchdowns against 20 interceptions as one of his biggest successes tells the story. He doesn’t have a big arm. The huge rate at which his receivers at USC caught touchdowns with yards of separation hid his suspect decision making. He never had the mechanics to be accurate, and the receiver play again hid this. His flaws were never obvious because with so few college starts, there just wasn’t enough film to find the holes in his game that are now obvious. He might be a nice guy and a great teammate, but he wasn’t good enough as an NFL quarterback and certainly did not merit a top five selection. That’s really all that matters."

    Exactly

Maybe the Colts should sign Sanchez and keep him on the bench for the regular season, then unleash him in the postseason.
