It's funny how majority of the country limits the top TE's to Amaro, Ebron and ASJ just cause these mock draft guru's have them listed that way. I could make a case that Lyerla is top 2 Tightend in this draft based on skill. He is magnificent at Navigating, Blocking, Catching and getting separation and is extremely versatile. His off field issues suck I understand but will could ultimately be our blessing if Jets could scoop him up later in the draft to pair him alongside Amaro.
I agree, he's a great player, but also a dumb moron that has made many mistakes....and isn't in the discusion of being a top 3 TE. We are talking about top TEs and he's not rated as one come May.
I agree that in comparison Cumberland doesn't hold any weight. I stand firm though that ASJ right now is an awful blocker especially for his size. Maybe with better coaching at the next level he will become better because we all know at 6'6 270 he has the size and should be a lot better than he is. My issue with using a 2nd rounder on him is that I just don't believe in him and feel that pick could be better utilized in someone that could make a better impact. His inability to separate nullifies him having great hands and scares me away because all I could think of are the announcers saying Geno's weapons are not getting open
Unless he has clearly put his drug issues aside for good, I wouldn't want the Jets to go anywhere near that kid. They don't need that kind of distraction and problem, and I'll be very surprised if Idzik took a chance on that kid regardless of how talented he may be. Plus, for that kid's sake, he needs to go someplace where he'll have fewer temptations/distractions, and a more stable, disciplined environment. With Rex quite probably being on the hot seat again next season and the team in flux, the Jets would not be the best environment for that kid. I hope he can land somewhere and get his life together, but I don't think the Jets is the place for him.
He'll be one hell of a value pick. Our offense will improve a lot with him and amaro as we will be unpredictable down the stretch. Lyerla's versatility is such an awesome asset to have. Lyerla in the FB position and Amaro lined up along the Line, defenses would not know what's coming at them.
Inunderstand where you are coming from and dealing with Santonio we've had enough of these off field distractions but he is so damn talented and if he gets his act together could greatly propel this shit for an offense we have. I want to win. I'm tired of losing. Look at the bengals I understand they fail to live up to their expectations but this team is stacked in every facet and will continue to be a threat. Burflict, Pacman. As crazy as this may sound I could deal with a controlled coke head rather than a me first, selfish player like Holmes, D.Jackson.
I, too, understand where you're coming from. I'm tired of all the losing too. I don't know how long you've been rooting for the Jets, but I'm at 50 years. That said, I'm not willing to sell my soul to win. As I said, if the kid has cleaned up his act and can stay clean, I wouldn't have a problem with his coming to the Jets. I'm all for giving people a 2nd chance. I just don't think it's best for anyone (the team or him) in the present situation/circumstances for him to come to the Jets. Rex is too lax. There are way too many distractions and temptations in NYC and the surrounding area. You don't think that a player who is willing to waste his talent and let his teammates down by getting suspended or having the drugs diminish his ability isn't being selfish? I sure do. Besides, there's no such thing as a "controlled coke head." Addicts are always susceptible to a relapse at any second. Every day is a struggle to stay clean and sober. If he is a "coke head" or addict, it is a problem he will have to deal with the rest of his life, and playing professional sports and its lifestyle might provide too much temptation and money for him to resist those temptations. It might be better for him to walk away from the game and try to get his life straightened out first and foremost. Wasting his athletic talents and abilities is a lot less important than wasting his life is, or perhaps hurting others and ruining their lives with his downward spiral.
