Jay Gruden hired as coach of Washington. Since they clearly wanted Jon but got Jay instead, I think Tony Kornheiser's comment is quite apt: You want Michael Corleone, you want to make sure you don't get Fredo instead.

Stunned about the Jay Gruden hiring, especially after that HORRIBLE offensive performance he put together.

I think Snyder will use Jay as his puppet, Jay of course took the job because why not?

The Bengals are probably going to keep Marvin Lewis because he's been a successful coach for them. They were doormats in the AFC North when he was hired and had been for years. They've been competitive with him as head coach for most of the last decade despite having not one but two premiere franchises in the same division with them.

Mike Brown knows a bad Bengals team when he sees it and this is not one of them and has rarely been one since Lewis took over.

The Bengals have just been in the playoffs three consecutive years. That's the first time in franchise history that's happened.

The 12 seasons from Sam Wyche's last year to Marvin Lewis:

    55 wins, 137 losses, 0 playoff appearances.

The 11 years since Lewis took over:

    90 wins, 85 losses, 1 tie, 4 playoff appearances.

Not a single playoff victory in 11 years.

So Mike Brown is going to throw Lewis overboard and hope that 4-12 basket case is not the next number in the sequence?

Do you remember how bad the Bengals were for a while there? They made the Bills of the last decade look good. It was like a double dose of the Millen years in Detroit.

I just don't see Brown moving on unless things fall apart.

He gets one more year I bet to win in the playoffs. Brown has to believe he's built a talented enough roster to go farther than they have.

I bet if he makes the playoffs next year he doesn't get the heave-ho.

New coaching regime + Ravens + Steelers = huge risk.

If he misses the playoffs Brown might make a change.

Bengals will likely underachieve greatly next season regardless. I believe teams have small windows and they get shut closed sooner rather than later. This was the Bengals year to, coming in everyone knew the Ravens had gone backwards, the Steelers didnt make improvements, and the Browns were the Browns. I believe by next year the Steelers and Ravens will be back to winning 10-12 games. That leaves the Bengals little room to slip up.

Marvin still might get fired but it does seem like he is going to survive.
