Just so I have this straight, am I allowed to criticize decisions that the Jets coach makes in the game, or do I need to be an authority on coaching in the NFL before I do that? How about QB decisions?
I'm with LTJF....that Gatorade shower to close out an 8-8 season was pretty pathetic. I like to think those things should be reserved for winning something of merit. It's speaks a little to the personal accountability in that locker room that they would celebrate like that after an 8-8 season.
It should be relevant if you're going to bash them. And that is a problem thats not going away anytime soon. Lets just hope the eventual Pats demise coincides with our rise.
a coaching decision has absolute outcomes -- failure or success -- that can be judged that are objective, not subjective. the play either succeeded or failed. if the play succeeds and you criticize it you simply look ridiculous in your attempt at criticism. if it doesn't work it then becomes subjective and you can argue that it was the wrong call (because sometimes good calls simply do not work also and it could be argued it was a good call, even though there could have been a better call). judging how and when celebrations should be administered is completely subjective, and thus you are claiming some expertise when you criticize because it has no absolute objective basis that would determine when it is appropriate or not to do so, and thus you are saying your criteria is the criteria for which it should be judged.
Now who's 'butt hurt'? Personally I understand your opinion , but don't accept its lack of merit.
That's cool. I also think Santonio Holmes is an asshole for celebrating every first down like he's the only person who ever did so. I am an authority on assholes because I am one.
Not butt hurt at all, just making sure I understand the parameters here so I can meet everyone's requirements.
We're not blaming Rex for this gatorade shower right? The players did it to him, it isnt like he asked for it.
I think he made it pretty clear he wasn't claiming any expertise. Surprised you didn't get that from his posts which he made that abundantly clear. Also- while there may not be a measurement of success for Gatorade showers, or any real handbook dictating when it's appropriate, it should be pretty damn obvious that it's not for 8-8 seasons. I also think you are stretching REALLY hard to back up your original (lame) criticism
the players being satisfied and excited about 8-8 mediocrity clearly reflects that standard of success Rex has emphasized with the team. Rex also looked pretty excited at the end of the game, which probably wasn't simply being excited about winning but finishing with a highly successful 8-8 record. so, yes, we are blaming Rex for the player's jubilation.
what evidence do you have that they were celebrating the 8-8 season with the Gatorade bath. that is what you have to support if you are going to claim that was what the Gatorade bath was directly in relation to. if you can't do so, you can't continue to criticize the bath under the guise that it was simply for the "success" and jubilation of an 8-8 season, as if the team has low standards of success.
I think this is a bit of a stretch. You ask Rex right now if he is happy with an 8-8 season he'll probably say no. Everyone was excited about a win in the heat of the moment, and I think the players wanted to support Rex. If the Jets came out and laid an egg, Rex probably would have been canned. They showed up, played a solid game, and were excited about the victory. Either that, or they were given word that Rex would be retained before the game and the ending was a congratulatory celebration. I guess my point is, I think everyone is overthinking this gatorade bath. I dont think its a sign of complacency or anything like that. I think it was a bunch of excited players congratulating their coach for a job well done.
IF the Jets disrespect Rex one more year, especially after he has a season comparable(hopefully & probably better than the 2013 season) then I think Rex will walk away from the Jets and get hired immediately as a head coach by almost any team out there other than the Pats,49ers, or Seahawks ..And He will be coming back and kicking the Jets A$$ every time he plays us. We better smarten up and extend him after next year or we're going to regret it more than we regretted trading up for Sanchez and drafting Gholston at 6....C'mon Woody!!
Did I say you were stretching before? That was nothing compared to this. They gave their coach a Gatorade shower.. after an 8-8 season. I have no evidence what was going through their heads. Maybe they were celebrating Rex getting laid the night before? I haven't a clue.. But the fact is they were 8-8 and they simultaneously were giving their coach a Gatorade bath.. which is my problem, and which (I think anyway) says more than just what they might've been thinking about when they were celebrating at the time...
no, you are the one that is stretching to make an argument by claiming the celebration was in direct response to their final record, and now that your argument has been shown to be without merit and you have proven you can't support that argument are now simply deflecting with exaggerations hoping nobody can tell the difference, which is in itself a pathetic strategy -- try to simply appeal to people who maybe stupid enough not to see your deflection strategy rather than actually support your argument. your argument is that they were celebrating the 8-8 season as if it was an accomplishment to be excited about. support that argument, or the fact is you have no argument and your criticism based on that criteria is without merit.
As the ultimate authority of all celebratory actions involving Gatorade showers on an NFL field I can say that without question, obviously, the Jets celebration looked silly. Obviously, without question and all that stuff, Gatorade showers should be reserved for meaningful wins, obviously. I don't care what they were celebrating, it looked silly given the facts we do know.
