I disagree. Though he is bust-level right now, you don't give up on a 2nd round pick (that you traded up for) that early. He will make the roster by this fact alone, even though Idzik didn't draft him. Plus he might do better if we have much better wrs around him, though he's unlikely to completely turn it around. Hill will likely have 1 year to prove that he should be on the roster - if he doesn't improve greatly he will be cut at season's end.
Perhaps sooner, I think if they see enough talent in 5 or 6 receivers besides Hill he's a Training camp casualty. It'd be nice if he pans out but the jets will need to bring in about two valid WR's nonetheless. I was hopeful he Smith could have something going, for now he's just a good run blocker.
Where do you see such chemistry? Most of the time they aren't on the same page or if they are Geno completely misses him. Sent from my LG-LS720 using Tapatalk
I was thinking about something last night and maybe it deserves its own thread, but I don't want to bog the site down... If Geno Smith was coming into the draft this year instead of last year, where would he rank amongst this crew? Probably obviously behind Bridgewater, Manziel, Bortles?, but where does he line up in regards to say a McCarron or Carr, or Boyd or Mettenberger?
He'd be below Bridgewater and Manziel. I think he'd be below Bortles because UCF runs a Pro Set and Bortles had a very good junior season running it. He'd be above everybody else at this point.
Hill is offically nearing bust status,Idzik didn't draft him id try and trade him for whatever while he still has some value,Id trade Hill for a cup of coffee and a napkin
I wouldn't do that. Roddy White, for example, didn't blossom until his 3rd/4th year. If you cut ties with Hill now, you could potentially be making a huge mistake. Receivers in the NFL don't do much until their 3rd or 4th year. You gotta give him a chance to develop. It also helps to put some more weapons on the field so he can escape coverage more often.
This is a good point. Additionally, the cost of keeping Hill around is so low, and resigning him out probably only cost a cup of coffee. A regular one, at that. And Dunkin, even, not Starbucks. Anyways, the point being that if he's a bust, he's not going to garner much in a trade, and keeping him around just in case he turns into something is probably worth his contract value on the cap. On topic, he did display a bit of chemistry with early season Geno Smith. (I'm specifically thinking of that last drive in the Falcons game.) Perhaps with more time, they could work better together.
That brings up another key point. If this franchise wants Geno to be the answer, which all signs show that, then you need to keep guys like Hill on your squad. I'm not saying we have declared him as the franchise guy, but we are definitely giving him the chance. When you have a young rookie like that at qb, you need to keep consistency. Just like coaching. Geno needs to develop chemistry with his receivers and Hill is a young prospect that can do that for him. If you keep moving receivers, you just hinder the development of the qb. With guys like Brees, Manning, and Brady, you don't need to worry about that. They are proven greats with experience and insane knowledge of the game. With a young qb, you need consistency for him to develop.
I stopped reading your post after you said all signs are that the FO wants Smith to be "the answer." They may want that, but unless they are committed to it, which I don't think they are (but which I think it fair to say you are implying you think they are), then the rest of your post doesn't follow. Anyway, I disagree that a developing Qb can only develop chemistry with younger receivers.
I never said any of that. What I'm saying is, every NFL team that drafts a qb wants that guy to be their next franchise guy. Like I said, they are not saying he is, but they sure as hell would like him to be. And I never said they can only gel with young receivers. I said that if you have a young guy that is going into his third year with great potential and has a rookie qb, it's a great time for that said qb and receiver to develop a strong bond with one another. Guys like Brady and company don't need to worry about having consistency at WR as much as a rookie qb. They know the game far more than a rookie guy will in his first five years. Geno can develop chemistry with a 30 year old receiver just as easily as with a 21 year old. I'm not saying he has to be young. But he's been there a year with him already and is a potential beast, at least we think. Perfect time for chemistry to start clicking.
I don't have enough posts to start a new thread, but rumors saying Geno kicked off his flight for a "verbal altercation" per Deadspin “@Deadspin: Geno Smith allegedly escorted off plane by LAX cops: http://t.co/0qJNTlfafh”
This upcoming season is pretty much Hill's make or break season. After his third year he'll either have stepped up or been pushed out. His rookie and freshman free pass is gone.
